এসপিটি নিউজ, নয়াদিল্লি, ৩ আগস্ট: ভারতের বৃহত্তম বিমান সংস্থা IndiGo-এর নতুন প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা (CEO) হিসেবে সোমবার আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করলেন বিশ্ব বিমান শিল্পের অন্যতম অভিজ্ঞ ব্যক্তিত্ব উইলিয়াম “উইলি” ওয়ালশ। চার দশকেরও বেশি সময়ের আন্তর্জাতিক বিমান পরিবহণ শিল্পে নেতৃত্বের অভিজ্ঞতা নিয়ে তিনি এমন এক সময়ে IndiGo-এর নেতৃত্বে এলেন, যখন সংস্থাটি দ্রুত আন্তর্জাতিক সম্প্রসারণ, দীর্ঘপাল্লার উড়ান বৃদ্ধি এবং বিশ্ববাজারে নিজেদের অবস্থান আরও শক্তিশালী করার লক্ষ্যে এগিয়ে চলেছে।
উইলি ওয়ালশ সম্প্রতি International Air Transport Association (IATA)-এর মহাপরিচালকের দায়িত্ব শেষ করেন। এর আগে তিনি British Airways-এর প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা এবং পরবর্তীতে International Airlines Group (IAG)-এর প্রধান হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। Aer Lingus-এ একজন পাইলট হিসেবে কর্মজীবন শুরু করা ওয়ালশ পরবর্তীকালে বৈশ্বিক বিমান শিল্পের অন্যতম প্রভাবশালী নীতিনির্ধারক হিসেবে পরিচিতি লাভ করেন।
IndiGo-এর পরিচালনা পর্ষদের পক্ষ থেকে জানানো হয়েছে, নতুন সিইও হিসেবে উইলি ওয়ালশ সংস্থার পরিচালনা পর্ষদ ও শীর্ষ ব্যবস্থাপনা দলের সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠভাবে কাজ করবেন। তাঁর নেতৃত্বে সংস্থার পরিচালন দক্ষতা আরও উন্নত করা, আন্তর্জাতিক রুট সম্প্রসারণ, বাণিজ্যিক কৌশলকে শক্তিশালী করা এবং যাত্রী পরিষেবার মান আরও উন্নয়নের ওপর বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হবে।
দায়িত্ব গ্রহণের পর উইলি ওয়ালশ বলেন, “IndiGo-এর নেতৃত্ব দেওয়ার সুযোগ পেয়ে আমি সম্মানিত। এই সংস্থার শক্তিশালী ভিত্তি, সুস্পষ্ট ভবিষ্যৎ পরিকল্পনা এবং অসাধারণ কর্মীবাহিনী রয়েছে। প্রতিষ্ঠানের এই সাফল্যের ধারাকে আরও এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া, পরিচালন দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধি এবং আন্তর্জাতিক নেটওয়ার্ক সম্প্রসারণে আমি সহকর্মীদের সঙ্গে কাজ করতে আগ্রহী।”
অন্যদিকে, IndiGo-এর ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক রাহুল ভাটিয়া বলেন, উইলি ওয়ালশের দীর্ঘ আন্তর্জাতিক অভিজ্ঞতা এবং কৌশলগত নেতৃত্ব সংস্থাকে নতুন উচ্চতায় পৌঁছে দিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করবে। তাঁর মতে, স্বল্পমূল্যের বিমান পরিষেবা থেকে শুরু করে পূর্ণাঙ্গ আন্তর্জাতিক বিমান সংস্থা পরিচালনার বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা IndiGo-এর আগামী দিনের প্রবৃদ্ধির জন্য অত্যন্ত মূল্যবান হবে।
বর্তমানে ভারতের অভ্যন্তরীণ বিমান পরিবহণ বাজারে IndiGo-এর অংশীদারিত্ব ৬০ শতাংশেরও বেশি। সংস্থাটি ইতোমধ্যেই শতাধিক গন্তব্যে পরিষেবা দিচ্ছে এবং আগামী কয়েক বছরে দীর্ঘপাল্লার আন্তর্জাতিক উড়ান বাড়ানোর লক্ষ্যে নতুন প্রজন্মের Airbus A350 উড়োজাহাজ বহরে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করার পরিকল্পনা নিয়েছে। এই প্রেক্ষাপটে উইলি ওয়ালশের নেতৃত্বকে IndiGo-এর বৈশ্বিক রূপান্তরের অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পদক্ষেপ হিসেবে দেখছেন বিমান শিল্প বিশেষজ্ঞরা।

Willie Walsh Takes Charge as IndiGo CEO, Signalling New Phase of Global Expansion
SPT News, NEW DELHI, Aug. 3: India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has officially appointed aviation veteran Willie Walsh as its Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition as the carrier accelerates its international expansion strategy and strengthens its position in the global aviation market.
Walsh, one of the most respected figures in international aviation, assumed office on Monday after concluding his tenure as Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). His appointment brings more than four decades of experience in airline operations, corporate leadership and global aviation policy to India’s fastest-growing airline.
Before leading IATA, Walsh served as Chief Executive of British Airways and later as Chief Executive of International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling and LEVEL. He began his aviation career as a commercial pilot with Aer Lingus before moving into senior management.
In a statement following his appointment, Walsh said he was honoured to lead IndiGo at a time when the airline is entering a new phase of growth.
“IndiGo has built an exceptional business with a strong operational foundation, a clear strategic vision and an outstanding team. I look forward to working closely with employees and stakeholders to strengthen the airline’s position, expand its global network and deliver greater value to customers,” Walsh said.
IndiGo’s Board said Walsh’s extensive international experience would support the airline’s long-term ambitions, including expanding its overseas network, improving operational efficiency and enhancing customer experience as it prepares for its next stage of growth.
Commenting on the appointment, IndiGo Managing Director Rahul Bhatia said Walsh’s leadership and global perspective would be instrumental in shaping the airline’s future.
“Willie’s unparalleled experience across airline management and international aviation policy makes him the ideal leader to guide IndiGo through its next phase of expansion. We are confident his strategic vision will help strengthen our position as a leading global airline,” Bhatia said.
The appointment comes as IndiGo pursues one of the most ambitious expansion plans in its history. The airline has been rapidly increasing its international footprint while preparing to induct long-haul aircraft, including the Airbus A350, to support non-stop services to more distant global destinations.
IndiGo currently commands more than 60% of India’s domestic aviation market and operates one of the world’s largest Airbus fleets. Over the past few years, the airline has steadily expanded beyond its traditional low-cost domestic model, adding new international routes and strengthening partnerships with global carriers.
Industry analysts said Walsh’s appointment reflects IndiGo’s ambition to evolve into a major global airline. His experience in managing large international carriers and shaping aviation policy is expected to play a key role as the airline navigates fleet expansion, network growth and increasing competition in international markets.
With demand for air travel continuing to rise and India’s aviation sector projected to become one of the world’s largest over the coming decade, Walsh’s leadership is widely viewed as a significant milestone not only for IndiGo but also for the broader Indian aviation industry.
