এসপিটি নিউজ: ভারতের পর্যটন শিল্পে এক নতুন অধ্যায়ের সূচনা করতে চলেছে মহারাষ্ট্র। প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য, সমুদ্রসৈকত বা পাহাড়ি গন্তব্যের বাইরে এবার নজর পড়েছে আকাশের দিকে। রাজ্য সরকার উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে ‘অ্যাস্ট্রো-ট্যুরিজম’ বা জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানভিত্তিক পর্যটন গড়ে তোলার, যার অংশ হিসেবে তৈরি করা হচ্ছে ১১টি নতুন ডার্ক-স্কাই বা স্টারগেজিং সাইট। এই উদ্যোগ শুধু পর্যটনের নতুন ধারা তৈরি করবে না, বরং শিক্ষা, বিজ্ঞানচর্চা এবং গ্রামীণ অর্থনীতির ক্ষেত্রেও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা নিতে চলেছে।
অ্যাস্ট্রো-ট্যুরিজম মূলত এমন এক অভিজ্ঞতা যেখানে শহরের আলো দূষণ থেকে দূরে গিয়ে রাতের আকাশের প্রকৃত রূপ দেখা যায়। আজকের দিনে বড় শহরগুলিতে কৃত্রিম আলোর কারণে আকাশের তারাগুলি প্রায় অদৃশ্য হয়ে গেছে। ফলে মিল্কিওয়ে গ্যালাক্সি, নক্ষত্রপুঞ্জ, গ্রহ কিংবা উল্কাবৃষ্টি দেখার মতো অভিজ্ঞতা সাধারণ মানুষের নাগালের বাইরে চলে গেছে। এই পরিস্থিতিতে মহারাষ্ট্রের মতো রাজ্যগুলি দূষণমুক্ত অঞ্চলকে কাজে লাগিয়ে পর্যটকদের জন্য এক অনন্য সুযোগ তৈরি করছে। পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী, এমন সব জায়গা বেছে নেওয়া হচ্ছে যেখানে আকাশ পরিষ্কার, আলোর দূষণ কম এবং প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশ এখনও অক্ষত রয়েছে।
এই ১১টি সম্ভাব্য ডার্ক-স্কাই সাইটের মধ্যে রয়েছে সহ্যাদ্রি পর্বতমালা সংলগ্ন অঞ্চল, বিদর্ভের বিস্তীর্ণ প্রান্তর এবং পশ্চিমঘাটের নির্জন এলাকা। এই স্থানগুলিতে রাতের আকাশ অত্যন্ত স্বচ্ছ হওয়ায় জ্যোতির্বৈজ্ঞানিক পর্যবেক্ষণের জন্য এগুলি আদর্শ। এখানে পর্যটকদের জন্য টেলিস্কোপ বসানো, প্রশিক্ষিত গাইডের ব্যবস্থা, নিরাপদ নাইট ক্যাম্পিং, অ্যাস্ট্রো-ফটোগ্রাফির সুযোগ এবং বৈজ্ঞানিক ব্যাখ্যাসহ স্টারগেজিং অভিজ্ঞতা তৈরি করা হবে। ফলে এটি শুধু একটি ভ্রমণ নয়, বরং শেখার এবং অনুভব করার এক সমন্বিত অভিজ্ঞতা হয়ে উঠবে।
এই উদ্যোগকে জনপ্রিয় করতে রাজ্য সরকার আয়োজন করতে চলেছে ‘খগোল দর্শন মহোৎসব ২০২৬’, যা একটি বৃহৎ জনসম্পৃক্ত উৎসব হিসেবে পরিকল্পনা করা হয়েছে। এই উৎসবে দেশ-বিদেশের জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানী, গবেষক এবং পর্যটকরা অংশ নিতে পারবেন। টেলিস্কোপের মাধ্যমে সরাসরি গ্রহ-নক্ষত্র দেখা, বিশেষজ্ঞদের সঙ্গে আলোচনা, অ্যাস্ট্রো-ফটোগ্রাফি কর্মশালা, শিশু ও শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য হাতে-কলমে বিজ্ঞান শেখার সুযোগ—সব মিলিয়ে এই উৎসবকে ঘিরে তৈরি হবে এক অন্যরকম পরিবেশ। এতে তরুণ প্রজন্মের মধ্যে বিজ্ঞানচর্চার আগ্রহ বাড়বে বলেই মনে করা হচ্ছে।
অর্থনৈতিক দিক থেকেও এই প্রকল্প অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। ডার্ক-স্কাই সাইটগুলি মূলত গ্রামীণ বা প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলে হওয়ায় স্থানীয় মানুষের জন্য নতুন কর্মসংস্থানের সুযোগ তৈরি হবে। হোমস্টে, ছোট রিসর্ট, গাইড পরিষেবা, পরিবহন এবং স্থানীয় হস্তশিল্পের চাহিদা বাড়বে। ফলে গ্রামীণ পর্যটন আরও শক্তিশালী হবে এবং স্থানীয় অর্থনীতি চাঙ্গা হবে। বিশেষজ্ঞদের মতে, আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যটকদের কাছেও এই ধরনের অভিজ্ঞতামূলক ভ্রমণের আকর্ষণ অনেক বেশি, ফলে বিদেশি পর্যটক টানার ক্ষেত্রেও এই উদ্যোগ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা নিতে পারে।
বর্তমানে বিশ্বজুড়ে ‘এক্সপেরিয়েন্স-বেসড ট্রাভেল’ দ্রুত জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠছে, যেখানে ভ্রমণ মানে শুধু স্থান দেখা নয়, বরং নতুন কিছু অনুভব করা। সেই প্রবণতার সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়েই ভারত এই নতুন দিশায় এগোচ্ছে। পরিবেশবান্ধব এবং টেকসই পর্যটনের ক্ষেত্রেও অ্যাস্ট্রো-ট্যুরিজম একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মাধ্যম, কারণ এতে প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণ করেই পর্যটন গড়ে তোলা হয়।
সব মিলিয়ে, মহারাষ্ট্রের এই উদ্যোগ ভবিষ্যতের পর্যটন মানচিত্রে এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মাইলফলক হয়ে উঠতে পারে। রাতের আকাশকে কেন্দ্র করে তৈরি এই নতুন ভ্রমণ অভিজ্ঞতা শুধু পর্যটকদেরই নয়, বরং বিজ্ঞানপ্রেমী, শিক্ষার্থী এবং প্রকৃতিপ্রেমীদের কাছেও সমানভাবে আকর্ষণীয় হয়ে উঠবে। আগামী দিনে ভারতের পর্যটন শিল্পে এই উদ্যোগ এক নতুন পরিচিতি এনে দেবে বলেই আশা করা হচ্ছে।

India’s First Major Astro-Tourism Push: Maharashtra to Launch 11 Dark-Sky Sites in 2026
SPT News: In a major push toward experience-based travel, Maharashtra is set to transform India’s tourism landscape with the development of 11 dedicated dark-sky or stargazing sites. This ambitious initiative aims to position the state as a leading destination for astro-tourism, offering travelers a rare opportunity to explore the night sky in its purest form.
Astro-tourism focuses on observing celestial wonders such as stars, planets, constellations, and the Milky Way in regions free from light pollution. With rapid urbanization limiting visibility of the night sky in cities, destinations that offer clear, unpolluted skies are becoming increasingly valuable. Maharashtra’s initiative taps into this growing global trend by identifying remote, low-light regions ideal for astronomical observation.
The proposed sites are spread across ecologically rich and less urbanized zones, including the Sahyadri mountain ranges, parts of Vidarbha, and select areas in the Western Ghats. These regions naturally offer optimal conditions for stargazing, making them perfect for both amateur and professional astronomy enthusiasts. Infrastructure development at these locations will include high-quality telescopes, guided night-sky tours, astro-photography setups, and safe camping facilities, ensuring a holistic and immersive travel experience.
To further amplify this initiative, the state will host the Khagol Darshan Mahotsav 2026, a large-scale festival dedicated to astronomy and night-sky tourism. The event is expected to attract scientists, researchers, photographers, students, and travelers from across the globe. Activities will include live telescope viewing sessions, interactive workshops, expert talks, and hands-on learning programs designed to spark interest in space science among young minds.
Beyond tourism, the project is expected to generate significant economic benefits. Since most of these dark-sky sites are located in rural or semi-remote areas, the initiative will boost local employment through homestays, eco-resorts, transport services, and guided tours. It also aligns with sustainable tourism goals by promoting eco-friendly practices and preserving natural environments.
Globally, astro-tourism is emerging as a fast-growing niche within the travel industry, driven by a shift toward meaningful and immersive experiences. With this strategic move, India is stepping into a competitive space, offering unique travel opportunities that combine science, nature, and adventure.
As travelers increasingly seek destinations that offer more than just sightseeing, Maharashtra’s astro-tourism initiative could become a defining model for the future of tourism in India—where the night sky itself becomes the ultimate attraction.
