এসপিটি নিউজ, ভোপাল, ২৬ সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৬: ইতিহাস, ঐতিহ্য, স্থাপত্য, ধর্মীয় পরম্পরা, প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য এবং বন্যপ্রাণ—পর্যটনের বহুমাত্রিক সম্ভাবনাকে সামনে রেখে ২০২৫ সালে মধ্যপ্রদেশে পর্যটকের আগমনে ঐতিহাসিক বৃদ্ধি ঘটেছে। ওই বছরে রাজ্যে মোট ২১ কোটি ৫ লক্ষ ৪২ হাজার ৫০৩ জন পর্যটক ভ্রমণ করেছেন। ২০২৪ সালে এই সংখ্যা ছিল ১৩ কোটি ৪১ লক্ষ ১০ হাজার ২৭৪। অর্থাৎ এক বছরের ব্যবধানে পর্যটক আগমন বেড়েছে প্রায় ৫৭ শতাংশ।

রাজ্য পর্যটন দফতরের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, ২০২৫ সালে মধ্যপ্রদেশে দেশীয় পর্যটকের সংখ্যা ছিল ২১ কোটি ৩ লক্ষ ৫৯ হাজার ৪৬৮। মোট পর্যটক আগমনের ৯৯.৮ শতাংশই ছিলেন দেশীয় পর্যটক। একই সময়ে বিদেশি পর্যটকের সংখ্যা বেড়ে হয়েছে ১ লক্ষ ৮৩ হাজার ৩৫, যা ২০২৪ সালের ১ লক্ষ ৬৭ হাজার ৭০৯-এর তুলনায় ৯.১০ শতাংশ বেশি।

পাঁচ বছরে পর্যটনে দ্রুত বিস্তার

২০২১ সালে মধ্যপ্রদেশে পর্যটকের সংখ্যা ছিল ৪ কোটি ৮৮ লক্ষের বেশি। ২০২৩ সালে তা বেড়ে ১১ কোটি ২২ লক্ষের বেশি হয়। ২০২৪ সালে পর্যটকের সংখ্যা ১৩ কোটি ৪১ লক্ষ ছাড়িয়ে যায়। ২০২৫ সালে সেই সংখ্যা এক লাফে ২১ কোটি ৫ লক্ষের বেশি হয়েছে।

এই বৃদ্ধির পিছনে ধর্মীয় ও তীর্থ পর্যটনের পাশাপাশি অবকাশযাপন, ঐতিহ্য, প্রত্নতত্ত্ব, বন্যপ্রাণ, গ্রামীণ পর্যটন এবং পরিবেশবান্ধব পর্যটনের ক্রমবর্ধমান গুরুত্ব রয়েছে।

উজ্জয়িনী শীর্ষে, ধর্মীয় পর্যটনে বিপুল সাড়া

২০২৫ সালে মধ্যপ্রদেশের পর্যটন মানচিত্রে সবচেয়ে বেশি পর্যটক আকর্ষণ করেছে উজ্জয়িনী। শ্রী মহাকাল লোক এবং জ্যোতির্লিঙ্গকে কেন্দ্র করে সেখানে ৮ কোটি ৪০ লক্ষের বেশি পর্যটকের আগমন হয়েছে।

এর পরে রয়েছে ইন্দোর। ২০২৫ সালে ইন্দোরে পর্যটকের সংখ্যা ছিল ২ কোটি ৮০ লক্ষ ৭০ হাজার ৭৩। সাতনা জেলার চিত্রকূটে গিয়েছেন ১ কোটি ৬২ লক্ষ ৫৯ হাজার ৮৩৭ জন। মাইহারে মা শারদা দেবীর ধামে গিয়েছেন ১ কোটি ৬১ লক্ষ ৭৮ হাজার দর্শনার্থী। দাতিয়ার রতনগড় মাতা মন্দিরে প্রায় ১ কোটি মানুষ এবং নালখেড়ার মা বগলামুখী মন্দিরে ৫১ লক্ষ ৬৯ হাজার পর্যটকের আগমন হয়েছে।

অমরকণ্টকে ৪৩ লক্ষ ১৭ হাজার ২৯২ জন, জামসাভলি হনুমান মন্দিরে ৪১ লক্ষ ৭০ হাজার এবং দাতিয়ার শ্রী পীতাম্বরা পীঠে প্রায় ৪০ লক্ষ পর্যটকের আগমন ঘটেছে।

২০২৫ সালে রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন তীর্থ ও ধর্মীয় গন্তব্যে প্রায় ১৬ কোটি ৯২ লক্ষ ভক্তের আগমন হয়েছে।

সিমহস্থ ২০২৮ সামনে রেখে নতুন পরিকাঠামো

উজ্জয়িনীতে ২০২৮ সালের সিমহস্থকে সামনে রেখে পর্যটক ও তীর্থযাত্রীদের থাকার ব্যবস্থা বাড়াতে গৃহবাস প্রকল্পের প্রচার জোরদার করা হয়েছে। এর মাধ্যমে স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের অতিরিক্ত আয় এবং পর্যটনভিত্তিক স্বনির্ভর কর্মসংস্থানের সুযোগ তৈরির লক্ষ্য নেওয়া হয়েছে।

উজ্জয়িনীতে রাজকীয় ঐতিহ্য ও আধুনিক সুযোগ-সুবিধার সমন্বয়ে ‘সম্রাট বিক্রমাদিত্য দ্য হেরিটেজ’ গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে। মহাকাল মন্দিরের কাছে অবস্থিত এই পর্যটন আবাসনে ঐতিহ্যবাহী আয়ুর্বেদিক সুস্থতা পরিষেবার পাশাপাশি শব্দ ও আলোক প্রদর্শনের ব্যবস্থাও রয়েছে।

ওঙ্কারেশ্বরে একাত্ম ধাম নির্মাণে প্রায় ২ হাজার ৪০০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগের কাজ চলছে। আচার্য শঙ্করের ১০৮ ফুট উচ্চতার মূর্তি ইতিমধ্যেই স্থাপিত হয়েছে। দ্বিতীয় পর্যায়ের ‘অদ্বৈত লোক’ প্রকল্পে আরও ২ হাজার ৪২৪ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ের অনুমোদন দেওয়া হয়েছে।

মহেশ্বরে ১০০ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে দেবী অহল্যাবাই লোক নির্মাণের কাজ শুরু হয়েছে। পাশাপাশি ১৮টি পর্যটন গ্রাম এবং ৫০০ জন বিশেষভাবে প্রশিক্ষিত পথপ্রদর্শক তৈরির পরিকল্পনাও নেওয়া হয়েছে।

পর্যটকদের দ্রুত যাতায়াতের জন্য হেলিকপ্টারভিত্তিক পর্যটন পরিষেবাও চালু হয়েছে। ওঙ্কারেশ্বর-মহাকালেশ্বর-ইন্দোর, কানহা-বান্ধবগড়-মাইহার-অমরকণ্টক-চিত্রকূট এবং ভোপাল-ওরছা-চন্দেরি পথে এই পরিষেবা পরিচালিত হচ্ছে।

অবকাশযাপন পর্যটনেও উল্লেখযোগ্য বৃদ্ধি

২০২৫ সালে প্রায় ৩ কোটি ৩৭ লক্ষ পর্যটক মধ্যপ্রদেশের বিভিন্ন শহর ও প্রাকৃতিক গন্তব্যে অবকাশযাপনের উদ্দেশ্যে ভ্রমণ করেছেন। ইন্দোরে পর্যটক আগমন বেড়েছে ১৭৩.৮ শতাংশ এবং সেখানে প্রায় ২ কোটি ৮০ লক্ষ পর্যটকের আগমন ঘটেছে।

ভোপালে পর্যটক বেড়েছে ১০.৭২ শতাংশ; পর্যটকের সংখ্যা ২৪ লক্ষ ৬২ হাজার। জবলপুরে ২৩ লক্ষ ৯৪ হাজার, মহেশ্বরে ১৪ লক্ষ ৬৮ হাজার, ভেড়াঘাটে ৫ লক্ষ ৯৭ হাজার এবং পাহাড়ি পর্যটনকেন্দ্র পচমঢ়িতে ৩ লক্ষ ১১ হাজার পর্যটকের আগমন হয়েছে।

ভোপালকে সম্মেলন ও ব্যবসায়িক পর্যটনের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কেন্দ্র হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে। কুশাভাউ ঠাকরে সম্মেলন কেন্দ্রকে আন্তর্জাতিক মানের সম্মেলনকেন্দ্র হিসেবে উন্নয়নে ৯৯ কোটি ৩৮ লক্ষ টাকা ব্যয়ের কাজ চলছে।

ইতিহাস ও প্রত্নঐতিহ্যেও পর্যটকের ভিড়

মধ্যপ্রদেশের ইতিহাস, স্থাপত্য এবং প্রত্নঐতিহ্য ২০২৫ সালে প্রায় ৫৯ লক্ষ পর্যটককে আকর্ষণ করেছে। ভোজপুরে শিব মন্দির দেখতে গিয়েছেন ১৮ লক্ষ ৬৪ হাজার মানুষ। গ্বালিয়রে পর্যটক বেড়েছে ১২.৪ শতাংশ এবং সেখানে ১০ লক্ষ ১২ হাজার পর্যটকের আগমন হয়েছে। মান্ডুতে পর্যটক বেড়েছে ৯.৩৬ শতাংশ।

খাজুরাহোতে ৫ লক্ষ ৪৭ হাজার, সাঁচিতে ৩ লক্ষ ৮১ হাজার, ভীমবেটকায় ১ লক্ষ ৭১ হাজার এবং ওরছায় ১ লক্ষ ৯৩ হাজার পর্যটকের আগমন হয়েছে।

ওরছার মধ্যযুগীয় ঐতিহ্য সংরক্ষণ প্রকল্পে ৯৯ কোটি ৯২ লক্ষ টাকা ব্যয়ে কাজ চলছে। গ্বালিয়র, চিত্রকূট, দাতিয়া এবং অমরকণ্টকেও প্রায় ৩০০ কোটি টাকার উন্নয়নকাজ চলছে।

খাজুরাহো, সাঁচি এবং ভীমবেটকা ইতিমধ্যেই বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্য তালিকায় রয়েছে। মধ্যপ্রদেশের আরও ১৫টি স্থান বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্য তালিকার সম্ভাব্য তালিকায় অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়েছে। ওরছা, মান্ডু এবং সাতপুরা ব্যাঘ্র সংরক্ষণ কেন্দ্রের জন্য বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্যের স্বীকৃতির আবেদনও জমা দেওয়া হয়েছে।

চন্দেরির তাঁতশিল্প নিয়ে নতুন পর্যটন ভাবনা

অশোকনগর জেলার চন্দেরির কাছে প্রাণপুর গ্রামকে ভারতের প্রথম কারুশিল্প ও তাঁত পর্যটন গ্রাম হিসেবে গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে। সেখানে পর্যটকেরা সরাসরি চন্দেরির ঐতিহ্যবাহী তাঁতবয়ন দেখতে পারেন, কারিগরদের হাতে শাড়ি ও হস্তশিল্প তৈরির প্রক্রিয়া প্রত্যক্ষ করতে পারেন এবং নির্মাতাদের কাছ থেকেই পণ্য কিনতে পারেন।

প্রায় ৪৫০টি তাঁতী পরিবার প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম ধরে এই ঐতিহ্যবাহী শিল্পকে ধরে রেখেছে। এর ফলে গ্রামীণ পর্যটনের পাশাপাশি স্থানীয় অর্থনীতিও উপকৃত হচ্ছে।

বন্যপ্রাণ পর্যটনে আন্তর্জাতিক আগ্রহ

মধ্যপ্রদেশকে ব্যাঘ্র রাজ্য হিসেবে পরিচিত করা হলেও রাজ্যের বন্যপ্রাণ বৈচিত্র্য আরও বিস্তৃত। রাজ্যে রয়েছে ১২টি জাতীয় উদ্যান, ৯টি ব্যাঘ্র সংরক্ষণ কেন্দ্র এবং ২৪টি বন্যপ্রাণ অভয়ারণ্য। একই সঙ্গে রাজ্যটি নেকড়ে, চিতা, ঘড়িয়াল, শকুন এবং চিতাবাঘ সংরক্ষণেও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করছে।

২০২৫ সালে প্রায় ১৭ লক্ষ বন্যপ্রাণপ্রেমী মধ্যপ্রদেশে ভ্রমণ করেছেন। সাতপুরা ব্যাঘ্র সংরক্ষণ কেন্দ্রের মাধাইয়ে ৪ লক্ষ ৩৬ হাজার, পান্নায় ৪ লক্ষ ৩ হাজার, কানহায় ২ লক্ষ ৫৫ হাজার, পেঞ্চে ২ লক্ষ ১১ হাজার এবং বান্ধবগড়ে ১ লক্ষ ৯৯ হাজার পর্যটকের আগমন হয়েছে।

বিদেশি পর্যটকদের কাছেও বন্যপ্রাণ পর্যটনের আকর্ষণ দ্রুত বাড়ছে। ২০২৫ সালে মধ্যপ্রদেশে আসা ১ লক্ষ ৮৩ হাজার ৩৫ জন বিদেশি পর্যটকের মধ্যে ৯৩ হাজার ৪১২ জন, অর্থাৎ অর্ধেকেরও বেশি, বন্যপ্রাণ পর্যটনকেন্দ্রে গিয়েছেন। এই ক্ষেত্রে বিদেশি পর্যটকের সংখ্যা বেড়েছে ১৭.৪৪ শতাংশ।

বান্ধবগড় জাতীয় উদ্যানে ৩১ হাজার ৩৯০ জন বিদেশি পর্যটক গিয়েছেন। কানহা জাতীয় উদ্যানে বিদেশি পর্যটক বেড়েছে ২৫.৩০ শতাংশ এবং সেখানে ২৩ হাজার ৯৯২ জন বিদেশি পর্যটকের আগমন হয়েছে। চিতা সংরক্ষণ প্রকল্পকে কেন্দ্র করে কুনো জাতীয় উদ্যানেও প্রথমবার ৬ হাজার ৩১৬ জন বিদেশি পর্যটক পৌঁছেছেন।

গ্রামীণ পর্যটন ও গৃহবাস প্রকল্পে জোর

সম্প্রদায়ভিত্তিক পর্যটন ব্যবস্থার অংশ হিসেবে মধ্যপ্রদেশে গৃহবাসের সংখ্যা গত কয়েক বছরে বেড়েছে। ২০২৬-২৭ সালে নতুন করে ২৭৭টি গৃহবাস নথিভুক্ত হয়েছে। বর্তমানে রাজ্যে প্রায় ৬৬৬টি গৃহবাস চালু রয়েছে।

তরুণদের পর্যটন শিল্পের সঙ্গে যুক্ত করতে পর্যটন দক্ষতা অভিযানও চালু করা হয়েছে। পাশাপাশি জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানভিত্তিক পর্যটন বিকাশে ছয়টি জেলার ছয়টি গ্রামকে বিশেষ পর্যটন গ্রাম হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে।

ধার জেলার জ্ঞানপুরা, ছিন্দওয়াড়ার ধুসাওয়ানি, বেতুলের বানঝা, নর্মদাপুরমের ধাবা, দমোহের রিচ্ছকুড়ি এবং উমরিয়ার রানচাকে এই উদ্যোগের আওতায় আনা হয়েছে।

দুঃসাহসিক পর্যটন ও উৎসবেও নতুন মাত্রা

জল, স্থল ও আকাশভিত্তিক নানা কর্মকাণ্ডের মাধ্যমে মধ্যপ্রদেশে দুঃসাহসিক পর্যটন সম্প্রসারিত হচ্ছে। আকাশ থেকে ঝাঁপ, গভীর জলে ডুব, নৌকাবিহার এবং পাখি পর্যবেক্ষণের মতো বিভিন্ন কর্মকাণ্ড পর্যটকদের আকর্ষণ করছে।

গান্ধী সাগর ভাসমান উৎসব, হনুবন্তিয়ার জল মহোৎসব, কুনো বন উৎসব এবং চন্দেরি উৎসব জাতীয় পর্যায়ে পরিচিতি পেয়েছে। মালব, নিমাড় এবং চম্বলের খাদ্যসংস্কৃতিকে তুলে ধরতে দিল্লি ও ভোপালেও খাদ্য উৎসব আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।

হনুবন্তিয়া, কুনো, চন্দেরি এবং গান্ধী সাগরে আগামী ১০ বছর নিয়মিত উচ্চমানের তাঁবু-নগরী পরিচালনার জন্য একটি দীর্ঘমেয়াদি পরিকল্পনাও তৈরি করা হয়েছে।

পর্যটনের নতুন মানচিত্রে মধ্যপ্রদেশ

২০২৫ সালে ২১ কোটি ৫ লক্ষের বেশি পর্যটকের আগমন মধ্যপ্রদেশের পর্যটন সম্ভাবনার বিস্তৃত পরিসরকে সামনে এনেছে। ধর্মীয় পর্যটন স্থানীয় কর্মসংস্থান ও জীবিকার সুযোগ বাড়াচ্ছে। একই সঙ্গে অবকাশযাপন, ঐতিহ্য, বন্যপ্রাণ, গ্রামীণ ও পরিবেশবান্ধব পর্যটন রাজ্যটির পর্যটন পরিচিতিকে আরও বৈচিত্র্যময় করে তুলছে।

নিরাপদ, সহজলভ্য, দায়িত্বশীল, টেকসই এবং পরিবেশসচেতন পর্যটন ব্যবস্থাকে আরও শক্তিশালী করার লক্ষ্য নিয়ে মধ্যপ্রদেশ পর্যটন দফতরের বিভিন্ন উদ্যোগ অব্যাহত রয়েছে। পর্যটনকে কেন্দ্র করে স্থানীয় সম্প্রদায়ের জন্য নতুন অর্থনৈতিক সুযোগ তৈরি করার পাশাপাশি মধ্যপ্রদেশকে আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যটন মানচিত্রে আরও সুপ্রতিষ্ঠিত করার লক্ষ্যেই এগোচ্ছে রাজ্যের পর্যটন উন্নয়ন।

Madhya Pradesh Records Historic Tourism Growth in 2025, Welcomes More Than 210 Million Visitors

Domestic tourist arrivals rise 57%, while international arrivals increase 9.10%; wildlife, heritage and spiritual tourism drive growing global interest

SPT NEWS, BHOPAL, India, Sept. 26, 2026: Madhya Pradesh recorded unprecedented growth in tourism in 2025, attracting more than 210 million visitors as its combination of religious destinations, heritage sites, wildlife reserves, natural landscapes and cultural attractions drew tourists from across India and overseas.

The state welcomed 210,542,503 tourists in 2025, compared with 134,110,274 in 2024, representing an increase of about 57%, according to figures released by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department.

Domestic tourist arrivals rose to 210,359,468, accounting for 99.8% of the total. International arrivals also increased, reaching 183,035 in 2025, up 9.10% from 167,709 in 2024.

Tourism Expansion Accelerates

The growth marks a sharp expansion in Madhya Pradesh’s tourism sector over the past five years. The state received more than 48.8 million tourists in 2021, over 112.2 million in 2023 and more than 134.1 million in 2024 before crossing the 210 million mark in 2025.

The figures point to a broadening tourism economy in which pilgrimage, leisure, heritage, wildlife, rural and nature-based tourism are all contributing to visitor growth.

Ujjain Leads Tourism Destinations

Ujjain remained Madhya Pradesh’s leading tourism destination in 2025, attracting more than 84 million visitors, driven largely by Shri Mahakal Lok and the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga.

Indore recorded 28,070,073 tourist arrivals, strengthening its position as a major urban and leisure tourism centre in the Malwa region.

Chitrakoot in Satna district attracted 16,259,837 visitors, while Maihar recorded 16,178,000 visitors at Maa Sharda Devi Dham. Ratangarh Mata Temple in Datia drew around 10 million visitors, while Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda attracted 5.169 million.

Amarkantak recorded 4,317,292 visitors, Jamsavli Hanuman Temple attracted 4.17 million, and Shri Pitambara Peeth in Datia received around 4 million visitors.

Pilgrimage Tourism Remains a Major Driver

Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a major centre for spiritual and pilgrimage tourism, with around 169.2 million devotees visiting religious destinations across the state in 2025.

Ujjain accounted for a substantial share of that movement, with 84 million devotees visiting the city, representing annual growth of 14.7%.

Ahead of Simhastha 2028, authorities are promoting the homestay scheme in Ujjain to expand accommodation capacity while creating additional income opportunities for local residents.

Infrastructure development is also expanding around major pilgrimage centres. Construction of Ekatm Dham in Omkareshwar is underway with an estimated investment of about 24 billion rupees, while the second phase, Advaita Lok, has been approved at a cost of 24.24 billion rupees. A 108-foot statue of Acharya Shankar has already been installed.

In Maheshwar, work has begun on Devi Ahilyabai Lok, a project costing 1 billion rupees, alongside plans for 18 tourism villages and 500 specially trained guides.

Helicopter Tourism Expands Connectivity

The state tourism department is also expanding air-based tourism through helicopter services.

Services currently connect Omkareshwar, Mahakaleshwar and Indore; Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Maihar, Amarkantak and Chitrakoot; as well as Bhopal, Orchha and Chanderi. The initiative is designed to provide faster and more convenient travel between major destinations.

Leisure Tourism Gains Momentum

Around 33.7 million tourists visited Madhya Pradesh for leisure tourism in 2025, travelling to its cities and natural destinations.

Indore recorded a 173.8% increase and welcomed around 28 million tourists, emerging as a major hub of the Malwa tourism circuit.

Bhopal recorded 2.462 million tourist arrivals, while Jabalpur received 2.394 million. Maheshwar recorded 1.468 million visitors, Bhedaghat 597,000 and Pachmarhi 311,000.

Bhopal is also being developed as a destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions. The Kushabhau Thakre Convention Centre is being developed as an international convention facility at a cost of 993.8 million rupees.

The introduction of shikaras, paddle boats and water bicycles at the Bhopal Boat Club, together with the addition of more than 8,000 hotel rooms across the state, is further expanding the leisure tourism offering.

Heritage and Archaeology Attract Millions

Madhya Pradesh’s history, architecture and archaeological heritage attracted around 5.9 million visitors in 2025. Bhojpur led the heritage segment with 1.864 million visitors.

Gwalior recorded 1.012 million visitors, an increase of 12.4%, while Mandu attracted 827,000 visitors, registering 9.36% growth.

Khajuraho received 547,000 visitors, Sanchi 381,000, Bhimbetka 171,000 and Orchha 193,000.

Heritage conservation projects are also under way, including the Orchha Medieval Splendour project, valued at 999.2 million rupees, and development works worth about 3 billion rupees across Gwalior, Chitrakoot, Datia and Amarkantak.

Khajuraho, Sanchi and Bhimbetka are already included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. A further 15 sites from Madhya Pradesh, including Gwalior, have been included on UNESCO’s Tentative List. Nomination dossiers have also been submitted for Orchha, Mandu and Satpura Tiger Reserve.

Craft Tourism Opens a New Rural Chapter

Pranpur village near Chanderi in Ashoknagar district has been developed as India’s first Craft Handloom Tourism Village.

Visitors can observe traditional Chanderi weaving, watch artisans produce sarees and handicrafts and purchase products directly from the makers. Around 450 weaver families have preserved the craft across generations, linking tourism with rural livelihoods and the local economy.

Wildlife Tourism Draws Growing International Interest

Madhya Pradesh, known as India’s Tiger State, has 12 national parks, nine tiger reserves and 24 wildlife sanctuaries. The state also has significant populations of wolves, cheetahs, gharials, vultures and leopards.

Around 1.7 million wildlife enthusiasts visited Madhya Pradesh in 2025. Madhai in Satpura Tiger Reserve recorded 436,000 visitors, Panna 403,000, Kanha 255,000, Pench 211,000 and Bandhavgarh 199,000.

Wildlife tourism is also becoming an increasingly important attraction for international visitors. Of the 183,035 international tourists who visited the state in 2025, 93,412, or more than 51%, visited wildlife tourism destinations.

International tourist arrivals in the wildlife segment increased by 17.44%, almost twice the state’s overall international tourist growth rate of 9.10%.

Bandhavgarh National Park attracted 31,390 international visitors, while Kanha National Park recorded 23,992 foreign visitors, an increase of 25.30%.

Kuno National Park received 6,316 international visitors amid global interest generated by the cheetah conservation programme. The Fossil National Park in Dindori recorded 4,843 international visitors, while Ratangiri received 1,127.

Rural Tourism and New Tourism Initiatives

Community-based tourism is also expanding. Madhya Pradesh registered 277 new homestays during 2026-27, taking the total number of operational homestays in the state to around 666.

A Tourism Skill Mission has been established to connect young people with the tourism industry.

The tourism department is also developing six Astro Villages across six districts to promote astronomy-based tourism. The selected villages are Gyanpura in Dhar, Dhusawani in Chhindwara, Banjha in Betul, Dhaba in Narmadapuram, Richhkudi in Damoh and Rancha in Umaria.

Sabrawani, Ladpura and Pranpur have received the national Best Tourism Village awards from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Madhya Pradesh has also received several other national and international recognitions for adventure and sustainable tourism initiatives.

Adventure Tourism and Tourism Festivals

Madhya Pradesh is expanding adventure tourism through water-, land- and air-based activities, including skydiving, scuba diving, kayaking and birdwatching.

The Floating Festival at Gandhi Sagar, Jal Mahotsav at Hanuwantiya, Kuno Forest Festival and Chanderi Festival have gained national recognition.

Food festivals highlighting the culinary traditions of Malwa, Nimar and Chambal have also been organised in Delhi and Bhopal.

A 10-year roadmap has been prepared for the regular operation of high-quality tent cities at Hanuwantiya, Kuno, Chanderi and Gandhi Sagar.

A Diversifying Tourism Landscape

The arrival of more than 210 million tourists in 2025 reflects the expanding scale and diversity of Madhya Pradesh’s tourism sector.

Spiritual tourism is creating employment and livelihood opportunities, while leisure, heritage, wildlife, rural and nature-based tourism are broadening the state’s appeal beyond traditional pilgrimage destinations.

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department is continuing to focus on safe, accessible, responsible, sustainable and environmentally conscious tourism development, while seeking to create new opportunities for local communities and strengthen the state’s presence on the global tourism map.
