Madhya Pradesh Tourism Fair 2026 to Target Over ₹1,100 Crore in Investment

SPT NEWS, Bhopal & Kolkata, 6 October: Madhya Pradesh is set to host the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Fair 2026 in Bhopal from October 7 to 10, with the state government targeting investment proposals and agreements worth more than ₹1,100 crore. The four-day event will be inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre.

The tourism fair aims to showcase Madhya Pradesh’s rich heritage, history, biodiversity and natural landscapes to domestic and international tourism markets, while creating new business opportunities for the state’s tourism sector.

The event will bring together tourism organisations, travel businesses, hotel groups, airlines, tourism experts and local tourism service providers from India and overseas. More than 100 international delegates from over 34 countries and more than 1,000 domestic travel businesses from over 15 states and Union Territories are expected to participate.

One of the key highlights will be more than 10,000 pre-scheduled business meetings. These meetings will connect international and domestic tourism buyers, travel businesses, hotel groups, airlines and travel companies with 355 local tourism service providers from Madhya Pradesh. The initiative is designed to help take the state’s local tourism products, folk culture, handicrafts and travel packages to wider international markets.

Investment will be another major focus of the fair. The state government is working towards finalising investment proposals and agreements worth more than ₹1,100 crore. Of this, contracts for 14 major projects worth ₹252 crore are expected to be awarded. The proposed projects include hotels, health and wellness centres, luxury tented accommodation, eco-tourism facilities and modern tourism service centres along important tourist routes.

The largest proposed investment is planned at Ramgarh in Sehore district. Valued at around ₹848.40 crore, the project is expected to include an international-standard golf course, golf residences, health and wellness facilities, luxury hotels and high-end hospitality infrastructure. It is projected to generate around 920 direct jobs, along with several hundred indirect employment opportunities.

The Madhya Pradesh government views tourism as a key driver of economic growth and local employment. The state has set a target of positioning Madhya Pradesh among India’s leading adventure tourism destinations by 2030, while also strengthening its position as a major wildlife tourism hub. Rural accommodation, public-private partnerships and the use of artificial intelligence and multilingual technology are also being promoted to improve the visitor experience.

The state’s recent tourism growth has added significance to the event. Madhya Pradesh recorded 21.05 crore tourist visits in 2025, representing a 57 per cent increase over the previous year. The government now aims to convert this growth into greater international investment, improved tourism infrastructure and sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities.

A total of 12 major memorandums and agreements are planned during the fair. These include initiatives related to training in tourism and travel management, connecting rural tourism accommodation with international booking platforms, identifying new motorcycle touring routes, improving safety standards in adventure tourism and promoting motorsport tourism.

Film tourism and digital technology will also feature prominently. Artificial intelligence-based quick-response systems are planned at tourism destinations. A special conservation initiative will also focus on the heritage architecture and landscape of Orchha, with the aim of advancing its nomination process for future UNESCO recognition.

The main business programme will begin on October 8. The Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh and the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Tourism will formally inaugurate the business fair and exhibition. Discussions will focus on positioning Madhya Pradesh as a leading wildlife tourism destination in India, along with sessions on adventure tourism and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions-related tourism.

On October 10, the exhibition will be opened free of charge to the general public, students and tourism students. The initiative aims to create greater interest in Madhya Pradesh’s tourism heritage among younger generations and encourage a stronger sense of pride in the state’s cultural and natural assets.

For international visitors, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board’s official information resources will also be made available in multiple languages. An advanced digital travel guide has been developed featuring three-dimensional visuals, maps, artificial intelligence-based information, virtual reality links and bilingual audio content.

Visitors to the fair will also have the opportunity to experience Madhya Pradesh’s Jyotirlinga temples and wildlife destinations through virtual reality.

Traditional cuisine will be another attraction at the fair. A special food showcase will highlight the state’s culinary heritage, featuring dishes such as kodo-methi rice, jowar and bajra rotis, mattar aloo, chakki saag, Malwa-Nimar dal bafla, roasted brinjal preparation and stone-ground chutneys.

After the fair, 16 familiarisation tours will be organised for tourism professionals and experts from India and abroad. Heritage tourism routes will cover Khajuraho, Orchha, Mandu, Maheshwar, Gwalior, Sanchi and Bhimbetka. Wildlife tourism routes will include Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Panna, Satpura and Kuno. Religious tourism routes will cover Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Chitrakoot and Amarkantak, while adventure and water-based tourism routes will include Pachmarhi, Chanderi, Tawa and Gandhi Sagar.

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Fair 2026 is therefore being positioned as more than a tourism business event. It represents a wider effort to drive economic growth, promote investment, protect the environment, preserve heritage, create employment for local communities and strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s position in the international tourism market.
