এসপিটি নিউজ, বাখারপুর (রামনগর), ২৩ মে: পূর্ব মেদিনীপুরের রামনগরের বাখারপুর গ্রাম যেন ২১ মে এক অনন্য আধ্যাত্মিক আবহে আত্মপ্রকাশ করল। শঙ্খধ্বনি, বৈদিক মন্ত্রোচ্চারণ, সাধু-সন্তদের উপস্থিতি এবং ভক্তদের উচ্ছ্বাসের মধ্য দিয়ে শ্রীশ্রী অখণ্ড ক্রিয়াযোগ সাধন মন্দিরের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা আচার্য দেবানন্দ শাস্ত্রীকে “শ্রীশ্রী ১০০৮ মহন্ত” সম্মানে ভূষিত করা হল। অযোধ্যার নির্মোহী আখড়ার পক্ষ থেকে সন্ত সমাজ ও বাখারপুর গ্রামবাসীদের উপস্থিতিতে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে তাঁকে এই আধ্যাত্মিক দায়িত্ব ও মর্যাদা প্রদান করা হয়।
আচার্য দেবানন্দ শাস্ত্রী শুধু একজন সাধক নন, তিনি সমাজসেবক, সেবাধর্মে নিবেদিত প্রাণ এবং জ্যোতির্বিদ হিসেবেও পরিচিত। দীর্ঘদিন ধরে সনাতন ধর্মচর্চা, ক্রিয়াযোগ সাধনা এবং মানবসেবার মাধ্যমে তিনি এক বিশেষ মর্যাদা অর্জন করেছেন। সেই অবদানের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপই এই সম্মান বলে জানান উপস্থিত সন্ত সমাজের সদস্যরা।
অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত সাধু-সন্তদের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়, ভারতবর্ষের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তের আশ্রম থেকে আগত মহাত্মারা এই দিনটিকে অত্যন্ত পুণ্যময় মুহূর্ত হিসেবে দেখছেন। নির্মোহী আখড়ার পক্ষ থেকে ঘোষণা করা হয়, আচার্য দেবানন্দ শাস্ত্রীকে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে “শ্রীশ্রী ১০০৮ মহন্ত” পদে অভিষিক্ত করা হল এবং তাঁর মাধ্যমে সনাতন সাধনা ও ধর্মরক্ষার এক নতুন অধ্যায় সূচিত হল।
দক্ষিণেশ্বর আদ্যাপীঠের স্বামী তেজসানন্দ মহারাজ তাঁর বক্তব্যে বলেন, দেবানন্দ শাস্ত্রী দীর্ঘদিন ধরে সন্ত সমাজের বহু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কাজে সক্রিয় ভূমিকা পালন করেছেন। তিনি বলেন, “ধর্ম রক্ষতি রক্ষিত”— অর্থাৎ আমরা যদি ধর্মকে রক্ষা করি, ধর্মও আমাদের রক্ষা করবে। তাঁর কথায়, অযোধ্যার মহামণ্ডলেশ্বর আচার্য সাকেত বিহারী দাসজির আশীর্বাদেই এই দায়িত্ব প্রদান করা হয়েছে এবং এই গুরুশক্তি আগামী দিনে সনাতন ধর্মকে আরও সুদৃঢ় করবে।
নিজের প্রতিক্রিয়ায় আবেগাপ্লুত হয়ে পড়েন নবনিযুক্ত মহন্ত আচার্য দেবানন্দ শাস্ত্রী। তিনি বলেন, এই সম্মানের যোগ্য তিনি কিনা, তা তিনি নিজেই জানেন না। উপস্থিত সকল সন্ত, মাতৃশক্তি ও ভক্তদের উদ্দেশে তিনি বিনম্র কণ্ঠে জানান, তাঁদের আশীর্বাদই তাঁর একমাত্র শক্তি। তিনি স্মরণ করেন তাঁর গুরু কৃষ্ণানন্দ গিরি মহারাজ ও বিদ্যাধর দাস ত্যাগী মহারাজের কথা, যাঁরা তাঁকে ক্রিয়াযোগের পথ দেখিয়েছিলেন। গুরুদের শিক্ষা তুলে ধরে তিনি বলেন, “পদ, যশ আর অর্থের পিছনে কখনও দৌড়ো না।” অথচ ভাগ্যের বিধানে আজ সেই মহন্ত পদের দায়িত্বই তাঁর কাঁধে এসে পড়েছে।
তিনি আরও জানান, অযোধ্যা থেকে আগত ব্রজকিশোর দাসজি আগেই ইঙ্গিত দিয়েছিলেন যে ভবিষ্যতে তাঁকে মহন্ত পদে অভিষিক্ত করা হবে। কিন্তু সেই কথা নিয়ে তিনি কখনও প্রচার করেননি। তাঁর কণ্ঠে বারবার ধ্বনিত হয় বিনয়— “আপনারা বিচার করবেন আমি এই পদের যোগ্য কি অযোগ্য। যদি আমার চলার পথে কোনও ভুলত্রুটি হয়, তাহলে আমাকে পথ দেখাবেন, হাত ছেড়ে দেবেন না।”
অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন রামনগরের নবনির্বাচিত বিধায়ক ড. চন্দ্রশেখর মণ্ডল। গুরুজির সঙ্গে দীর্ঘদিনের সম্পর্কের কথা স্মরণ করে তিনি বলেন, এই আশ্রম রামনগরকে আধ্যাত্মিকতার এক নতুন উচ্চতায় পৌঁছে দিয়েছে। তাঁর মতে, এই আশ্রম শুধু ধর্মীয় কেন্দ্র নয়, সমাজের ঐক্য ও মানবিক চেতনারও এক শক্তিশালী ভিত্তি।
দীঘা থেকে আসা এক শিষ্যা জানান, তিন দশকেরও বেশি সময় ধরে গুরুজির সঙ্গে তাঁর সম্পর্ক। তাঁর কথায়, “গুরুজি আমাদের কাছে ভরসা, দিশা ও আশ্রয়। এখানে কেউ খালি হাতে ফেরে না।” তিনি বলেন, আশ্রমটি শুধু সাধনার কেন্দ্র নয়, মানবসেবারও এক জীবন্ত প্রতিষ্ঠান।
রাষ্ট্রীয় স্বয়ং সেবক সঙ্ঘের পূর্ব মেদিনীপুরের প্রমুখ গৌরাঙ্গ খাড়া বলেন, গুরুজি আমাদের খুবই শ্রদ্ধেয়। সনাতনের প্রচারে তাঁর অবদান বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না। তিনি আমাদের সবাইকে পথ দেখিয়েছেন। আজ অযোধ্যা থেকে তাঁকে শ্রীশ্রী ১০০৮ মহন্ত পদে অভিষিক্ত করার মধ্য দিয়ে গোটা পূর্ব মেদিনীপুর তথা গোটা বাংলা গর্বিত হল। এতা সনাতনীদের কাছে বড় প্রাপ্তি।
আবার এক ভক্তশিষ্যা নন্দিতা দাস আবেগঘন কণ্ঠে বলেন, “গুরু ছাড়া জীবনের পথ সম্পূর্ণ হয় না। সনাতন সংস্কৃতিকে রক্ষা করতে হলে গুরু পরম্পরা প্রয়োজন।” নিজের জীবনের কঠিন সময়ে গুরুজির আশ্রয় কীভাবে তাঁকে নতুন জীবন দিয়েছে, সেই অভিজ্ঞতাও ভাগ করে নেন তিনি।
স্বামী তেজসানন্দ মহারাজ আশ্রমের লোগোতে লেখা “মহাজন যেন গতঃ স পন্থা” মন্ত্রটির তাৎপর্য ব্যাখ্যা করতে গিয়ে বলেন, মহাজন বা গুরুমনীষীরা যে পথ অনুসরণ করেছেন, সেই পথেই চলছেন দেবানন্দ শাস্ত্রী। তাঁর মতে, এই গুরুশক্তি কোনও শক্তির দ্বারাই বিনষ্ট করা সম্ভব নয়। তিনি প্রার্থনা করেন, ঈশ্বর যেন তাঁকে এই দায়িত্ব বহনের অসীম শক্তি দান করেন।
দিনভর আধ্যাত্মিক আবহ, ভক্তিমূলক পরিবেশ ও সন্ত সমাজের আশীর্বাদে বাখারপুরের এই অনুষ্ঠান এক ঐতিহাসিক মুহূর্তের সাক্ষী হয়ে রইল। শুধু একজন সাধকের সম্মানপ্রাপ্তি নয়, সনাতন সাধনা, গুরুশক্তি ও মানবসেবার এক নতুন অধ্যায়ের সূচনা হিসেবেই দিনটিকে দেখছেন উপস্থিত ভক্ত ও সাধুসমাজ।
Acharya Devananda Shastri Conferred with Prestigious Sri Sri 1008 Mahant Honour in East Midnapore

SPT News, Ramnagar, 23 May: A spiritually significant and emotionally charged ceremony unfolded at Bakharpur village in Ramnagar of East Midnapore on May 21, 2026, as Acharya Devananda Shastri, founder of Sri Sri Akhanda Kriyayoga Sadhan Mandir, was ceremonially honoured with the revered title of “Sri Sri 1008 Mahant.”
The honour was bestowed by Ayodhya’s Nirmohi Akhara in the presence of saints, devotees, spiritual leaders and local residents. The occasion transformed the village into a vibrant centre of devotion, spirituality and Sanatan cultural unity.
Acharya Devananda Shastri is widely known not only as a spiritual guide and Kriyayoga practitioner but also as a social worker, humanitarian and astrologer. For years, he has remained actively engaged in spiritual service, social welfare activities and the promotion of Sanatan Dharma through his ashram.
During the ceremony, saints from different parts of India described the occasion as a “sacred and historic day” for the spiritual community. Representatives of the saint fraternity formally announced his appointment as Sri Sri 1008 Mahant and praised his dedication towards spiritual upliftment and service to humanity.
Swami Tejasananda Maharaj from Dakshineswar Adyapeath stated that Acharya Devananda Shastri had long contributed to several important activities of the saint community. Referring to the Sanskrit principle “Dharma Rakshati Rakshitah,” he said that those who protect Dharma are themselves protected by it. He further mentioned that the decision had come under the blessings and guidance of Mahamandaleshwar Acharya Saket Bihari Dasji of Ayodhya.
An emotional Acharya Devananda Shastri humbly expressed that he did not know whether he was truly worthy of such a prestigious honour. Thanking the assembled saints, devotees and spiritual mothers, he said their blessings alone would guide him forward. Remembering his gurus, Krishnaananda Giri Maharaj and Vidyadhar Das Tyagi Maharaj, he recalled their teachings of never running after fame, position or wealth.
He further revealed that saints from Ayodhya had previously hinted at his future elevation to the Mahant position, though he never publicly discussed it. In a deeply humble appeal, he requested everyone to guide and bless him if he ever committed mistakes in his spiritual responsibilities.
The event was attended by newly elected Ramnagar MLA Dr. Chandrashekhar Mondal, who described the ashram as a major spiritual force in the region. He said the ashram had played an important role in promoting spirituality, unity and social harmony in Ramnagar and beyond.
Gouranga Khara, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Purba Medinipur, stated, “Guruji is held in the highest esteem by us. His contribution to the propagation of Sanatan Dharma is beyond words; he has shown the path to us all. Today, with his investiture in Ayodhya as ‘Shri Shri 1008 Mahant,’ the entirety of Purba Medinipur—and indeed, all of Bengal—stands proud. This is a momentous achievement for all Sanatanis.”
Several disciples and devotees also shared their emotional experiences. A disciple from Digha said she had been associated with Guruji for more than three decades and described him as a source of hope, guidance and spiritual shelter. Another devotee, Nandita Das, emotionally spoke about the importance of Guru Parampara in preserving Sanatan culture and values.
Swami Tejasananda Maharaj also highlighted the philosophical significance of the ashram’s motto, “Mahajan Jena Gatah Sa Panthah,” explaining that true spiritual progress comes by following the path shown by enlightened masters and gurus.
The ceremony ultimately became more than just a conferment of a spiritual title. For devotees and saints alike, it symbolised the continuation of an ancient spiritual tradition rooted in devotion, discipline, humility and service to humanity.
