এসপিটি নিউজ, কাঠমান্ডু: চারদিকে শুধু ধ্বংস। পাহাড় থেকে নেমে আসা জল, কাদা আর পাথরের স্রোতে ঘরবাড়ি নিশ্চিহ্ন। কোথাও প্রিয়জনের খোঁজে স্বজনের হাহাকার, কোথাও ধ্বংসস্তূপের নিচে নিখোঁজ মানুষকে খুঁজে চলেছে উদ্ধারকারী দল। সেই মৃত্যুভূমির মধ্যেই হঠাৎ ভেসে এল একটি ক্ষীণ কান্নার শব্দ।
সেই কান্নাই যেন বলে দিল—সব শেষ হয়ে যায়নি।
নেপালের রসুয়া জেলার টিমুরে গ্রামে ভয়াবহ ভোটেকোশী বন্যার প্রায় ৬০ ঘণ্টা পর ধ্বংসস্তূপের নিচ থেকে জীবিত উদ্ধার করা হল ছয় বছরের শিশু মণীষা মারগারকে। নেপালের সশস্ত্র পুলিশ বাহিনীর উদ্ধারকারীরা কাদামাটি ও ধ্বংসাবশেষের নিচে তাঁর কান্নার শব্দ শুনতে পান। তারপর শুরু হয় অসম্ভবকে সম্ভব করার লড়াই।
ধীরে ধীরে সরানো হয় কাদা। একের পর এক সরানো হয় কাঠ, পাথর ও ধ্বংসস্তূপ। আর শেষ পর্যন্ত বেরিয়ে আসে ছোট্ট মণীষা।
শরীর চাপা পড়েছিল কাদায়, বেঁচেছিল মাথার ওপরের সামান্য ফাঁকা জায়গায়
উদ্ধারকারীদের বক্তব্য অনুযায়ী, মণীষার শরীরের প্রায় পুরোটাই কাদার নিচে চাপা পড়েছিল। একটি কাঠের কাঠামো তাঁর মাথার ওপর পড়ে থাকায় মুখটি সম্পূর্ণভাবে চাপা পড়েনি। সেই সামান্য ফাঁকই সম্ভবত তাঁর প্রাণ বাঁচিয়ে দেয়।
আর সেই ফাঁক দিয়েই বাইরে পৌঁছে যায় তাঁর ক্ষীণ কান্নার শব্দ।
উদ্ধারের সময় শিশুটির অবস্থা ছিল অত্যন্ত সংকটজনক। প্রথমে টিমুরে সীমান্ত নিরাপত্তা চৌকিতে তাঁকে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। সেখানে তাঁকে উষ্ণ রাখা হয় এবং প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা দেওয়া হয়। পরে নেপাল সেনাবাহিনীর হেলিকপ্টারে করে তাঁকে উন্নত চিকিৎসার জন্য নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়।
চিকিৎসকদের পর্যবেক্ষণে তাঁর মুখ ও শরীরে আঘাতের চিহ্ন রয়েছে। পরে শারীরিক অবস্থার অবনতি হওয়ায় তাঁকে কাঠমান্ডুতে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। তাঁর বাবা-মাকেও চিকিৎসা দেওয়া হচ্ছে।
যাঁদের আর পাওয়া যাবে না ভেবেছিলেন—তাঁরাও বেঁচে আছেন
মণীষাকে উদ্ধারের পর আরও একটি স্বস্তির খবর আসে।
প্রাথমিকভাবে তাঁর বাবা-মাকে নিখোঁজ বলে মনে করা হলেও পরে জানা যায়, তাঁরাও বেঁচে গিয়েছেন। বন্যার প্রবল স্রোত তাঁদের দেওয়ালে ছিটকে ফেলেছিল। সেই আঘাতই শেষ পর্যন্ত তাঁদের প্রাণ বাঁচিয়ে দেয়।
তাঁদের যখন জানানো হয় যে, প্রায় ৬০ ঘণ্টা পর তাঁদের ছোট্ট মেয়েকে জীবিত উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে—তখন সেই মুহূর্তটি যেন এই বিপর্যয়ের অন্ধকারের মধ্যেও এক বিরল মানবিক আলোর রেখা হয়ে ওঠে।
মণীষার কান্না যেন গোটা নেপালকে বলল—‘আরও কেউ হয়তো বেঁচে আছে’
মণীষার উদ্ধার শুধু একটি শিশুর প্রাণরক্ষা নয়। এই মুহূর্তে এটি নেপালের হাজার হাজার উদ্ধারকর্মীর কাছে নতুন আশার প্রতীক।
কারণ এখনও ধ্বংসস্তূপের নিচে, নদীর তলদেশে, ভেঙে পড়া বাড়ির ভিতরে এবং জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্পের সুড়ঙ্গে বহু মানুষের সন্ধান চলছে।
৩১ আগস্ট সকাল পর্যন্ত নেপালের জাতীয় দুর্যোগ ঝুঁকি হ্রাস ও ব্যবস্থাপনা কর্তৃপক্ষের হিসাবে, বন্যা ও পরবর্তী বিপর্যয়ে ৯০৩ জনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে এবং ৪,২৪৭ জন এখনও নিখোঁজ বা যোগাযোগের বাইরে। ইতিমধ্যে ১০,৪৫১ জনকে উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। উদ্ধার ও তল্লাশি অভিযানে নেপাল পুলিশ, নেপাল সেনা এবং সশস্ত্র পুলিশ বাহিনীর মিলিয়ে ২০,৮৯৯ জন নিরাপত্তাকর্মী মোতায়েন রয়েছেন।
নেপাল সেনাবাহিনী হেলিকপ্টারের মাধ্যমে ৩,৩৪৪ জন নেপালি নাগরিক এবং ২৫২ জন বিদেশিকে উদ্ধার করেছে। এ পর্যন্ত ৪১১টি হেলিকপ্টার অভিযান পরিচালিত হয়েছে।
শুধু নদী নয়, এখন সুড়ঙ্গেও মৃত্যুর সঙ্গে লড়াই
বিপর্যয়ের নতুন এবং সবচেয়ে উদ্বেগজনক অধ্যায় এখন জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্পগুলির সুড়ঙ্গে।
সরকারি হিসাব অনুযায়ী, নিখোঁজদের মধ্যে ৯৩৩ জন জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্পের সঙ্গে যুক্ত কর্মী রয়েছেন। বহু সুড়ঙ্গ কাদা, পাথর ও ধ্বংসাবশেষে বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে। নেপাল সেনাবাহিনী ও প্রযুক্তিগত দলগুলি সেই সুড়ঙ্গগুলিতে পৌঁছনোর চেষ্টা করছে।
রয়টার্সের প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, উদ্ধারকারীরা রসুয়া ও নুওয়াকোটের একাধিক জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্পে আটকে পড়া কর্মীদের সন্ধানে অভিযান চালাচ্ছেন। কিছু প্রকল্পে শতাধিক মানুষের নিখোঁজ থাকার আশঙ্কা রয়েছে।
প্রতিটি ধ্বংসস্তূপ এখন একটি প্রশ্ন
কারও বাবা নেই। কারও সন্তান নেই। কেউ খুঁজছেন স্ত্রীকে, কেউ ভাইকে, কেউ বন্ধুকে।
ধ্বংসস্তূপ সরানোর প্রতিটি মুহূর্তে তাই উদ্ধারকারীদের সামনে শুধু কাদা-পাথর নয়—একটি পরিবারের অপেক্ষাও থাকে।
কোথাও হয়তো মিলবে নিথর শরীর।
আবার কোথাও, মণীষার মতো, হয়তো ভেসে আসবে একটি ক্ষীণ কান্নার শব্দ।
সেই আশাতেই এখনও চলছে তল্লাশি।
প্রায় ৬০ ঘণ্টা কাদার নিচে থেকেও মণীষা ফিরে এসেছে জীবনের আলোয়।
তাই নেপালের এই মহাবিপর্যয়ের মধ্যে ছোট্ট মণীষার গল্পটি শুধু একটি শিশুর বেঁচে থাকার গল্প নয়—এটি সেই অদম্য বিশ্বাসের গল্প, যা বলে—

Six-Year-Old Girl Rescued Alive After 60 Hours Under Rubble in Nepal Floods; Parents Also Found Alive
TIMURE, Nepal — A six-year-old girl was rescued alive after spending nearly 60 hours trapped beneath mud and debris in a flood-ravaged village in northern Nepal, offering a rare moment of hope in a disaster that has killed hundreds and left thousands missing.
The child, identified as Manisha Magar, was pulled from the wreckage in Timure village of Rasuwa district after rescuers heard what they believed was a faint cry coming from beneath the debris.
The rescue team of Nepal’s Armed Police Force began digging through layers of mud, timber and wreckage after locating the sound. After a painstaking operation, the girl was brought out alive.
Manisha had been trapped in a narrow space beneath the debris left behind by the devastating surge of the Bhotekoshi River, which swept through the area near Nepal’s border with China.
She was later flown by helicopter to Kathmandu for further medical treatment. Reports said she had suffered injuries to her face and body but was in stable condition.
Parents feared missing, later found alive
For a time, Manisha’s parents could not be located, raising fears that the family had been separated or killed in the disaster.
They were later found alive and taken for medical treatment. According to reports, the force of the flood threw them against a wall, but they survived the impact.
The discovery of the family has become one of the few moments of relief amid an otherwise devastating search for survivors across the flood-hit Himalayan region.
Death toll rises to 903
The rescue of Manisha came as Nepal’s search and recovery operation entered its sixth day.
According to Nepal’s disaster authorities, 903 people had died and 4,247 remained missing as of Monday, August 31. More than 10,000 people had been rescued, while thousands of security personnel continued operations across the worst-hit districts.
The disaster began on August 26 after a massive release of water, mud and rock devastated communities along the Nepal-China border and sent destructive floodwaters downstream through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems.
Hundreds feared trapped inside hydropower tunnels
The rescue effort has now shifted increasingly toward hydropower facilities in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, where hundreds of workers are believed to be trapped inside tunnels blocked by mud and rocks.
Nepalese authorities have reported 933 missing hydropower workers. Rescue teams, supported by Chinese and Indian specialists, are attempting to reach the blocked tunnels despite unstable terrain and the continuing threat of landslides and further flooding.
At several sites, rescuers have been using excavators and other heavy equipment to remove tonnes of debris. At the Upper Trishuli projects, rescue operations have focused on workers believed to remain underground.
A fragile hope amid devastation
The scale of the disaster has overwhelmed communities across northern and central Nepal. Roads and bridges have been washed away, villages isolated and hydropower infrastructure severely damaged. Hospitals in Kathmandu have also struggled to cope with the number of bodies being recovered.
Yet the story of Manisha has given rescuers and families waiting for news a powerful reason to keep searching.
For nearly 60 hours, she remained hidden beneath the mud and wreckage.
Then came a sound.
A child’s cry.
And for a brief moment, amid one of Nepal’s worst disasters in years, that cry became a message of hope: someone could still be alive beneath the ruins.
