এসপিটি নিউজ,কলকাতা, ১০ জুন: বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস উপলক্ষে কলকাতায় শুরু হলো পরিবেশ ও জলবায়ু সচেতনতা বিষয়ক বিশেষ আলোকচিত্র প্রদর্শনী কন্ট্রোল ‘Contours of Climate Action: Our Planet, Our Lens’। ৯ জুন কলকাতার Kolkata Centre for Creativity-এ এই প্রদর্শনীর উদ্বোধন হয়।
ব্রিটিশ ডেপুটি হাইকমিশন, কলকাতা, ইন্দো-ব্রিটিশ স্কলারস অ্যাসোসিয়েশন, কলকাতা সেন্টার ফর ক্রিয়েটিভিটি এবং কলকাতা সোসাইটি ফর কালচারাল হেরিটেজ -এর যৌথ উদ্যোগে এই প্রদর্শনীর আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। সহযোগিতায় রয়েছে আইইএম-ইউইএম গ্রুপ, রাউন্ডগ্লাস সাসটেইন, হেরিটেজ বেঙ্গল গ্লোবাল কানেক্ট এবং ভেদিক ভিলেজ স্পা রিসর্ট।
জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন, পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণ এবং টেকসই উন্নয়নের বার্তা ছড়িয়ে দিতে আন্তর্জাতিক স্তরের একটি আলোকচিত্র প্রতিযোগিতার আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল। বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তের আলোকচিত্রী ও ভিজ্যুয়াল স্টোরিটেলাররা প্রকৃতি, জীববৈচিত্র্য, আবাসস্থল সংরক্ষণ, পরিচ্ছন্ন শক্তি এবং দূষণ-সহ নানা বিষয়ের ওপর তাঁদের ছবি পাঠান। সেই প্রতিযোগিতা থেকে নির্বাচিত সেরা ছবিগুলিই এই প্রদর্শনীতে স্থান পেয়েছে।
প্রতিযোগিতার বিচারকের ভূমিকায় ছিলেন আন্তর্জাতিক খ্যাতিসম্পন্ন প্রকৃতি ও সংরক্ষণ আলোকচিত্রী ধৃতিমান মুখার্জি, ব্রিটিশ ডেপুটি হাইকমিশনের সিনিয়র ক্লাইমেট অ্যান্ড এনার্জি অ্যাডভাইজার হৈমন্তী পোদ্দার এবং পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্ত বন্যপ্রাণ ও প্রাকৃতিক ইতিহাসভিত্তিক চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাতা অশ্বিকা কাপুর ।
পূর্ব ও উত্তর-পূর্ব ভারতের ব্রিটিশ ডেপুটি হাইকমিশনার অ্যান্ড্রু ফ্লেমিং উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে বলেন, জলবায়ু ও শক্তি সংক্রান্ত ক্ষেত্রে ভারত-যুক্তরাজ্যের অংশীদারিত্বকে আরও শক্তিশালী করার লক্ষ্যে গড়ে ওঠা বিভিন্ন সহযোগিতা এই প্রদর্শনীর মাধ্যমে একত্রিত হয়েছে। তিনি প্রদর্শনীতে অংশগ্রহণকারী আলোকচিত্রীদের সৃজনশীলতার প্রশংসা করেন এবং সাধারণ মানুষকে ১৩ জুনের মধ্যে প্রদর্শনীটি ঘুরে দেখার আহ্বান জানান।
অনুষ্ঠানে প্রতিযোগিতার ফাইনালিস্টদের সংবর্ধনা দেওয়া হয়। পাশাপাশি ধৃতিমান মুখোপাধ্যায়ের তোলা বিরল প্রকৃতি ও আবাসস্থলের ছবি এবং অশ্বিকা কাপুরের সংরক্ষণ বিষয়ক বিশেষ প্রদর্শনী দর্শকদের আকর্ষণের কেন্দ্রবিন্দু হয়ে ওঠে। অনুষ্ঠানে বিগ লিপ ইনক্লুসিভ ফাউন্ডেশন-এর বিশেষভাবে সক্ষম শিশুদের শিল্পকর্মও প্রদর্শিত হয়।
কলকাতা সেন্টার ফর ক্রিয়েটিভিটির চেয়ারপার্সন এবং ইমামি আর্ট-এর সিইও রিচা আগরওয়াল বলেন, শিল্প ও সংস্কৃতি সমাজের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় নিয়ে অর্থবহ আলোচনা গড়ে তুলতে সক্ষম। পরিবেশ ও জলবায়ু সংকটের মতো বৈশ্বিক চ্যালেঞ্জ সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধিতে এই ধরনের প্রদর্শনী গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।
অন্যদিকে, ইন্দো-ব্রিটিশ স্কলার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের প্রাক্তন সভাপতি সুব্রত পাল বলেন, আলোকচিত্র মানুষের মনে চিন্তার খোরাক জোগায়, আলোচনা সৃষ্টি করে এবং ইতিবাচক পদক্ষেপ নিতে উদ্বুদ্ধ করে। প্রকৃতি, জীববৈচিত্র্য এবং পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণের গল্পকে সামনে আনার ক্ষেত্রে এই প্রদর্শনী একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ উদ্যোগ।
ভারত ও যুক্তরাজ্যের যৌথ India-UK Vision 2035-এর লক্ষ্য অনুযায়ী পরিবেশ সুরক্ষা, জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মোকাবিলা এবং টেকসই উন্নয়নের বার্তা সাধারণ মানুষের কাছে পৌঁছে দেওয়াই এই উদ্যোগের অন্যতম উদ্দেশ্য। আয়োজকদের মতে, জলবায়ু সংকট মোকাবিলায় জনসচেতনতা ও অংশগ্রহণ বাড়াতে এই ধরনের সাংস্কৃতিক উদ্যোগ ভবিষ্যতেও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করবে।
বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত এই প্রদর্শনী আগামী ১৩ জুন পর্যন্ত প্রতিদিন সকাল ১১টা থেকে সন্ধ্যা ৬টা পর্যন্ত কলকাতা সেন্টার ফর ক্রিয়েটিভিটিতে দর্শকদের জন্য উন্মুক্ত থাকবে।

International Climate Action Photography Exhibition Opens in Kolkata
SPT News, Kolkata, 11 June: Kolkata marked World Environment Day with the inauguration of “Contours of Climate Action: Our Planet, Our Lens”, an international photography exhibition showcasing powerful visual narratives on climate action, biodiversity conservation, clean energy, and environmental sustainability.
The exhibition, inaugurated on June 9 at the Kolkata Centre for Creativity, is jointly organised by the British Deputy High Commission Kolkata, the Indo-British Scholars’ Association (IBSA), Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC), and the Kolkata Society for Cultural Heritage (KSCH), with support from several partner organisations.
Featuring photographs selected through an international contest, the exhibition highlights compelling stories of conservation efforts, natural habitats, renewable energy initiatives, and the impact of climate change. The contest attracted photographers and visual storytellers from diverse backgrounds, encouraging them to capture inspiring examples of environmental action and stewardship.
The jury included internationally acclaimed nature and conservation photographer Dhritiman Mukherjee, Senior Climate and Energy Advisor at the British Deputy High Commission Kolkata Haimanti Poddar, and award-winning wildlife and natural history filmmaker Ashwika Kapur.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to East and Northeast India, praised the collaborative effort behind the exhibition and the quality of the photographs on display. He noted that the exhibition reflects the strong partnerships developed under the Climate and Energy pillar of the UK-India Vision 2035, aimed at addressing shared environmental challenges through cooperation and public engagement.
The exhibition also showcases a special collection of nature and habitat photography by Dhritiman Mukherjee, alongside a dedicated conservation segment curated by Ashwika Kapur. Finalists of the photography contest were felicitated during the event, while artwork created by specially-abled children from the Big Leap Inclusive Foundation added a unique and inspiring dimension to the exhibition.
Richa Agarwal, Chairperson of Kolkata Centre for Creativity and CEO of Emami Art, emphasized the role of art and culture in fostering dialogue around critical global issues. She highlighted how visual storytelling can help audiences better understand environmental challenges and inspire meaningful action.
Former IBSA President Subrata Paul described photography as a powerful medium capable of encouraging reflection, dialogue, and collective responsibility towards protecting the planet.
The exhibition forms part of broader India-UK efforts to promote sustainable development, climate resilience, and environmental awareness. Through striking imagery and creative expression, it seeks to engage visitors in conversations about the urgent need for climate action and conservation.
The exhibition will remain open to the public at the Kolkata Centre for Creativity until June 13, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily.
