Madhya Pradesh Tourism Wins Excellence Award at TAAI Convention in Kolkata
SPT NEWS, KOLKATA, India, Oct. 26, 2026 — Madhya Pradesh Tourism has received an Excellence Award at the 69th Convention and Exhibition of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), held in Kolkata as part of the organisation’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
The three-day Indian Travel Congress, running from Oct. 25 to 27 at ITC Royal Bengal, brought together more than 900 domestic and international delegates from across the travel and tourism industry. The convention provided a platform for Madhya Pradesh to promote its tourism offerings, outline development plans and strengthen ties with travel trade partners.
The state delegation was led by Dr. Abhay Arvind Bedekar, an Indian Administrative Service officer and additional managing director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board. The award recognised the state’s efforts in tourism promotion, destination development, policy initiatives and engagement with the travel trade.
“Madhya Pradesh is transforming into a global tourism hub by seamlessly blending our rich historical heritage with contemporary experiences,” Bedekar said at the convention.
He described the award, presented during TAAI’s 75th anniversary celebrations, as recognition of the state’s efforts to encourage destination innovation and responsible tourism practices.
Madhya Pradesh highlighted a range of initiatives aimed at attracting domestic and international visitors, including regional tourism development, rural homestay expansion, film tourism and improved transport connectivity. The state also presented opportunities for travel agents to develop packages combining its historical sites, wildlife destinations, cultural attractions and spiritual centres.
Preparations for Simhasth 2028 in Ujjain featured prominently in the presentation. The large-scale religious gathering is expected to attract millions of pilgrims and visitors, prompting plans to strengthen infrastructure, conserve heritage sites and improve hospitality facilities.
The state also outlined measures to promote Madhya Pradesh as a destination for film production. Under its Film Tourism Policy 2025, the government aims to attract filmmakers through access to diverse locations, streamlined permissions and financial incentives.
Improving connectivity was another focus of the delegation’s participation. The tourism board highlighted efforts to work with airlines, including Air India, IndiGo and Thai Airways, to strengthen air access to key destinations. It also pointed to initiatives such as the PM Shri Heli Paryatan Seva, which aims to expand tourism opportunities through helicopter services.
The state further emphasised the role of its Tourism Policy 2025 and rural homestay initiatives in broadening the range of experiences available to visitors while creating opportunities for local communities.
Safe and transparent travel services were also discussed, with the delegation highlighting cooperation with India’s Ministry of Tourism to encourage responsible booking practices and ethical conduct across the travel trade.
Madhya Pradesh Tourism identified Kolkata and the wider eastern Indian market as important sources of visitors, particularly for spiritual, wildlife and heritage tourism. Participation in the convention enabled the board to engage with travel agents, destination management companies and hospitality businesses, with the aim of developing new partnerships and expanding the state’s reach among travellers.
The tourism board said it would continue to promote Madhya Pradesh as a destination offering a combination of cultural heritage, wildlife, spiritual experiences and emerging tourism products.
The convention comes as Indian states increasingly seek to attract visitors through improved connectivity, destination-specific tourism policies and closer collaboration with travel industry stakeholders.
