এসপিটি নিউজ, শিলিগুড়ি, ২৩ সেপ্টেম্বর: ২৪ বছরের ঐতিহ্যকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে আরও বৃহৎ পরিসরে ফিরছে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা পর্যটন উৎসব। আগামী ২৫ থেকে ২৭ সেপ্টেম্বর দার্জিলিং ও শিলিগুড়ি জুড়ে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা পর্যটন উৎসব ২০২৬। বিশ্ব পর্যটন দিবসকে কেন্দ্র করে আয়োজিত এই তিন দিনের উৎসবে পর্যটনের পাশাপাশি সংস্কৃতি, খাদ্য, রোমাঞ্চ, খেলাধুলা এবং আন্তঃসীমান্ত মানুষের যোগাযোগকে বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে। ‘সংস্কৃতি মানুষকে যুক্ত করে’—এই ভাবনাকে সামনে রেখে এবারের উৎসব ভারত, নেপাল, ভুটান ও বাংলাদেশের মানুষের মধ্যে যোগাযোগ ও অভিজ্ঞতা বিনিময়ের একটি আঞ্চলিক মঞ্চ হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে।
২০০১ সালে শুরু হওয়া এই উৎসবের আয়োজক অ্যাসোসিয়েশন ফর কনসারভেশন অফ ট্যুরিজম বা ACT। দীর্ঘ দুই দশকের বেশি সময় ধরে পূর্ব হিমালয়ের পর্যটন, পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণ এবং স্থানীয় মানুষের অংশগ্রহণকে সামনে রেখে উৎসবটি এগিয়ে চলেছে। ২০২৬–এর আসরে উৎসবের পরিধি আরও বাড়িয়ে পূর্ব হিমালয়, উত্তর–পূর্ব ভারত এবং প্রতিবেশী দেশগুলির সঙ্গে সাংস্কৃতিক ও পর্যটন–ভিত্তিক যোগাযোগকে গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে।
এবারের উৎসবের প্রধান পৃষ্ঠপোষক হিসেবে থাকছেন দার্জিলিংয়ের সংসদ সদস্য রাজু বিস্ট। গুডউইল অ্যাম্বাসেডর হিসেবে যুক্ত হয়েছেন পদ্মশ্রী পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্ত এবং ভারতীয় জাতীয় ফুটবল দলের প্রাক্তন অধিনায়ক বাইচুং ভুটিয়া। এবারের অন্যতম বিশেষ আকর্ষণ ‘আধ্য ট্রাভেল অ্যাওয়ার্ডস’। পর্যটন, আতিথেয়তা, সংস্কৃতি এবং সমাজসেবার ক্ষেত্রে বিশেষ অবদান রাখা নারী নেতৃত্বকে এই সম্মানের মাধ্যমে স্বীকৃতি দেওয়া হবে।
উৎসবের আহ্বায়ক এবং অ্যাসোসিয়েশন ফর কনসারভেশন অফ ট্যুরিজমের রাজ বসুর বক্তব্য অনুযায়ী, দুই দশকের বেশি সময় ধরে পূর্ব হিমালয়ের পর্যটনের বিকাশের সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা পর্যটন উৎসবও বিকশিত হয়েছে। এবারের আয়োজন নির্দিষ্ট কয়েকটি পর্যটনকেন্দ্রের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ না থেকে পূর্ব হিমালয়, উত্তর–পূর্ব ভারত এবং প্রতিবেশী দেশগুলির মধ্যে মানুষে–মানুষে যোগাযোগ ও অভিজ্ঞতা বিনিময়ের বৃহত্তর আঞ্চলিক পরিসর তৈরি করতে চায়।
বাইচুং ভুটিয়ার মতে, কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা পর্যটন উৎসব কেবল পর্যটনকেন্দ্রিক একটি অনুষ্ঠান নয়। এবারের ‘সংস্কৃতি মানুষকে যুক্ত করে’ ভাবনার পাশাপাশি ‘প্লে ফর নেপাল’ উদ্যোগও দেখাচ্ছে, কীভাবে খেলাধুলার মাধ্যমে সীমান্তের ওপারে সম্প্রীতি ও একতার বার্তা পৌঁছে দেওয়া সম্ভব।
এবারের উৎসবে ইমার্জিং নর্থ–ইস্ট ইকো ফোরাম বা ENEEF উৎসব সহযোগী হিসেবে যুক্ত হয়েছে। এই অংশীদারিত্বের ফলে উত্তর–পূর্ব ভারতের সঙ্গে উৎসবের সাংস্কৃতিক যোগাযোগ আরও বিস্তৃত হচ্ছে। ENEEF-এর চেয়ারম্যান ও প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সত্যজিৎ আরিবামের বক্তব্য, উত্তর–পূর্ব ভারত ভারতের সঙ্গে দক্ষিণ–পূর্ব এশিয়ার যোগাযোগের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সেতু। কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা পর্যটন উৎসবের মাধ্যমে শিলিগুড়ি করিডোরের বাইরের পাহাড়ি অঞ্চলগুলির সঙ্গে উত্তর–পূর্ব ভারতের সংস্কৃতি, পরিবেশ ও মানুষের আকাঙ্ক্ষাকে আরও নিবিড়ভাবে যুক্ত করার সুযোগ তৈরি হয়েছে। ENEEF-এর সাংস্কৃতিক রাষ্ট্রদূত মাংকা মায়াংলামবাম উৎসবে সাংস্কৃতিক পরিবেশনা করবেন। এর মাধ্যমে উৎসবের সাংস্কৃতিক পরিসর ইম্ফল পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত হবে।
২৫ থেকে ২৭ সেপ্টেম্বরের এই উৎসবে থাকছে একাধিক নতুন কর্মসূচি। ২৬ সেপ্টেম্বর সকাল ৬টায় অনুষ্ঠিত হবে ‘দ্য কুইন্স ট্রেইল’। দার্জিলিংয়ের ঔপনিবেশিক আমলের স্থাপত্য ও ঐতিহাসিক স্থানগুলিকে কেন্দ্র করে এই ঐতিহ্যবাহী পদযাত্রা দার্জিলিং হিমালয়ান রেলওয়ের দার্জিলিং স্টেশনে গিয়ে শেষ হবে। ইউনেস্কো বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্যের স্বীকৃতিপ্রাপ্ত দার্জিলিং হিমালয়ান রেলওয়ের ঐতিহ্যের সঙ্গে পর্যটকদের পরিচয় করিয়ে দেওয়াই এই কর্মসূচির অন্যতম উদ্দেশ্য।
একই দিন সকাল সাড়ে ১০টায় সোনাদার সালেশিয়ান কলেজে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে ‘জিটিএ চৌতারা মিট’ এবং বিশেষজ্ঞদের প্যানেল আলোচনা। জলবায়ু–সহনশীল পর্যটন, অ্যাডভেঞ্চার ও পর্বত সংরক্ষণ এবং ভ্রমণ ক্ষেত্রে কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা ও সুস্থতাভিত্তিক পর্যটনের ভূমিকা নিয়ে আলোচনা করবেন সংশ্লিষ্ট ক্ষেত্রের বিশেষজ্ঞ ও পেশাদাররা।
উৎসবের আরেকটি উল্লেখযোগ্য কর্মসূচি ‘পেডাল উইথ ডিএইচআর’। প্রায় ১০০ জন সাইক্লিস্ট শিলিগুড়ি জংশন থেকে রংটং পর্যন্ত দার্জিলিং হিমালয়ান রেলওয়ের ঐতিহ্যবাহী রুট ধরে সাইকেল র্যালিতে অংশ নেবেন। রেল ঐতিহ্য, পাহাড়ি ভূদৃশ্য এবং সক্রিয় পর্যটনের সমন্বয়ে এই কর্মসূচি পর্যটনের একটি ভিন্ন অভিজ্ঞতা তুলে ধরবে।
খেলাধুলার মাধ্যমে আন্তঃসীমান্ত সম্প্রীতির বার্তা পৌঁছে দিতে আয়োজন করা হয়েছে ‘প্লে ফর নেপাল’ চ্যারিটি ফুটবল ম্যাচের। বাইচুং ভুটিয়ার নেতৃত্বে ইস্টবেঙ্গল ভেটেরান্স এবং জিটিএ ১১–এর মধ্যে এই ম্যাচ অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। খেলাধুলাকে মানুষের মধ্যে যোগাযোগ ও সংহতির মাধ্যম হিসেবে ব্যবহার করাই এই উদ্যোগের মূল উদ্দেশ্য।
কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা পর্যটন উৎসবের সঙ্গে শুরু থেকেই স্থানীয় সম্প্রদায়, পর্যটন পেশাদার, ট্রাভেল অপারেটর, শিল্পী এবং পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণ সংগঠনগুলির অংশগ্রহণের বিষয়টি যুক্ত রয়েছে। ২০২৬–এর আয়োজন সেই পরিসরকে আরও বিস্তৃত করে পূর্ব হিমালয় ও উত্তর–পূর্ব ভারতের পাশাপাশি প্রতিবেশী দেশগুলির সঙ্গে সাংস্কৃতিক ও পর্যটন যোগাযোগের একটি বৃহত্তর মঞ্চ তৈরি করতে চাইছে।
বিশ্ব পর্যটন দিবসের প্রাক্কালে ২৫ সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে শুরু হতে চলা এই উৎসব তাই শুধুমাত্র পর্যটনকেন্দ্রিক অনুষ্ঠান হিসেবে নয়, সংস্কৃতি, ঐতিহ্য, পরিবেশ, ক্রীড়া এবং মানুষের পারস্পরিক যোগাযোগকে একসঙ্গে তুলে ধরার একটি আঞ্চলিক উদ্যোগ হিসেবেও সামনে আসছে। ২৪ বছরের যাত্রার পর কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা পর্যটন উৎসব ২০২৬ সেই বৃহত্তর পূর্ব হিমালয় ও উত্তর–পূর্ব ভারতকে একটি অভিন্ন পর্যটন ও সাংস্কৃতিক পরিসরে যুক্ত করার লক্ষ্যেই এগোচ্ছে।

Kanchenjunga Tourism Festival 2026 to showcase culture, tourism and cross-border ties in eastern Himalayas
SPT NEWS, SILIGURI/DARJEELING, India — Sept. 23, 2026: The Kanchenjunga Tourism Festival, a 24-year-old annual event in eastern India, will return from Sept. 25 to 27 with an expanded programme aimed at bringing together tourism, culture, sports, heritage and people-to-people exchanges across the eastern Himalayas and neighbouring countries.
Organised by the Association for Conservation of Tourism (ACT), the three-day festival will be held across Darjeeling and Siliguri around World Tourism Day. Organisers said this year’s edition will focus on the theme “Culture Connects People” and seek to strengthen cultural and tourism links between India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
The festival will feature cultural programmes, heritage activities, discussions on tourism and conservation, cycling, football and initiatives highlighting the region’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista will serve as the festival’s chief patron, while Padma Shri awardee and former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia will be the goodwill ambassador.
One of the new features of the 2026 festival will be the Aadhya Travel Awards, which will recognise women who have made notable contributions to tourism, hospitality, culture and social service across the region.
Raj Basu, convenor of ACT, said the festival had evolved alongside tourism in the eastern Himalayas over more than two decades.
“This year we are looking beyond individual destinations to create a larger regional platform for people-to-people connections and exchange of experiences across the eastern Himalayas, Northeast India and neighbouring countries,” Basu said.
Bhaichung Bhutia said the festival had the potential to extend beyond tourism and provide a platform for social and cultural interaction.
He said initiatives such as “Play for Nepal”, alongside the festival’s central theme, demonstrated how sport could be used to promote friendship and unity across borders.
The festival has also expanded its partnership network this year with the participation of the Emerging North-East Eco Forum (ENEEF) as a festival partner.
Satyajit Aribam, chairman and founder of ENEEF, described Northeast India as an important link between India and Southeast Asia. He said the partnership would help connect the cultural and environmental narratives of Northeast India with the wider eastern Himalayan region.
ENEEF cultural ambassador Mangka Mayanglambam will present a cultural performance during the festival, extending its cultural reach to Manipur.
Among the key programmes is “The Queen’s Trail”, a heritage walk scheduled for the morning of Sept. 26. The walk will take participants through Darjeeling’s colonial-era architecture and historic locations before concluding at Darjeeling railway station, part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
The same day, the GTA Chautare Meet and Experts’ Panel Discussions will be held at Salesian College in Sonada. Experts and tourism professionals will discuss climate-resilient tourism, adventure tourism, mountain conservation, and the role of artificial intelligence and wellness in travel.
Another major programme, “Pedal with DHR”, will bring together about 100 cyclists for a ride from Siliguri Junction to Rangtong along the historic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway route.
The festival will also feature a charity football match titled “Play for Nepal”, with Bhaichung Bhutia leading the East Bengal Veterans against GTA 11. Organisers said the match would use sport as a platform for promoting solidarity and people-to-people ties across borders.
The Kanchenjunga Tourism Festival was launched in 2001 and has since been held annually around World Tourism Day. ACT says the festival brings together local communities, travel operators, artists, tourism professionals and conservation organisations to promote responsible tourism in the Kanchenjunga region and across Northeast India.
The 2026 edition is expected to broaden that regional focus by combining tourism and cultural activities with discussions on conservation, technology, sports and community participation.
With its expanded programme and participation from organisations and cultural representatives beyond the Darjeeling-Siliguri region, the festival is positioning itself as a platform for greater interaction among the eastern Himalayas, Northeast India and neighbouring countries.
