এসপিটি নিউজ, পুরী, ১৬ জুলাই: ‘জয় জগন্নাথ’ ধ্বনিতে মুখরিত হয়ে উঠল ওড়িশার পবিত্র শহর পুরী। বিশ্বের অন্যতম বৃহত্তম ধর্মীয় সমাবেশ শ্রীজগন্নাথদেবের রথযাত্রা উপলক্ষে বৃহস্পতিবার ভোর থেকেই লক্ষ লক্ষ ভক্তের ঢল নামে বড়দণ্ডে (গ্র্যান্ড রোড)। দেশ-বিদেশের অসংখ্য তীর্থযাত্রী, সাধুসন্ত ও পর্যটকের উপস্থিতিতে এক অনন্য আধ্যাত্মিক আবহের সৃষ্টি হয়।
প্রচলিত আচার-অনুষ্ঠান মেনে শ্রীজগন্নাথ, বলভদ্র ও সুভদ্রাকে ‘পাহান্ডি বিজে’-র মাধ্যমে শ্রীমন্দির থেকে বের করে আনা হয়। এরপর গজপতি মহারাজ ঐতিহ্যবাহী ‘ছেরা পাহরা’ অনুষ্ঠান সম্পন্ন করেন। সোনার ঝাঁটা দিয়ে তিনটি রথ পরিষ্কার করে তিনি সকলের সামনে সমতার বার্তা তুলে ধরেন।
বিকেলের দিকে হাজার হাজার ভক্তের টানে তিনটি বিশাল রথ শ্রীগুণ্ডিচা মন্দিরের উদ্দেশে যাত্রা শুরু করে। তবে সূর্যাস্ত ঘনিয়ে আসায় এবং ধর্মীয় রীতি মেনে এদিন সম্পূর্ণ পথ অতিক্রম করা সম্ভব হয়নি। ফলে নন্দিঘোষ, তালধ্বজ ও দর্পদলন রথ নির্ধারিত স্থানে থামিয়ে দেওয়া হয়। শুক্রবার সকালে পুনরায় রথ টানা শুরু হবে এবং তিন দেবদেবী গুণ্ডিচা মন্দিরে পৌঁছবেন বলে মন্দির প্রশাসন জানিয়েছে।
এবারের রথযাত্রায় নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থাও ছিল নজিরবিহীন। বিপুল জনসমাগম সামাল দিতে বহুস্তরীয় নিরাপত্তা বলয়, ড্রোন নজরদারি, কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা-ভিত্তিক পর্যবেক্ষণ ব্যবস্থা, বিপুল সংখ্যক পুলিশ ও দুর্যোগ মোকাবিলা বাহিনী মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে। রেল, সড়ক ও স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবাতেও নেওয়া হয়েছে বিশেষ ব্যবস্থা, যাতে দূরদূরান্ত থেকে আগত ভক্তদের কোনও অসুবিধা না হয়।
তবে এত বিপুল জনসমাগমের মধ্যে একসময় ভিড়ের চাপে কিছুটা বিশৃঙ্খল পরিস্থিতির সৃষ্টি হয়। প্রশাসনের দ্রুত হস্তক্ষেপে পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে এলেও কয়েকজন ভক্ত অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েন এবং একজনের মৃত্যুর খবরও সামনে এসেছে। আহত ও অসুস্থদের দ্রুত চিকিৎসার ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। ঘটনার তদন্ত শুরু করেছে প্রশাসন।
পুরীর রথযাত্রা শুধু একটি ধর্মীয় উৎসব নয়, এটি ভারতের আধ্যাত্মিক ঐতিহ্য, সংস্কৃতি এবং সাম্প্রদায়িক সম্প্রীতির এক অনন্য প্রতীক। প্রতিবছরের মতো এবারও বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন প্রান্ত থেকে আগত ভক্তরা রথের রশিতে হাত রেখে নিজেদের ধন্য মনে করেছেন। তাঁদের বিশ্বাস, মহাপ্রভুর রথ টানার সৌভাগ্য জীবনের সকল পাপক্ষয় করে এবং ঈশ্বরের বিশেষ আশীর্বাদ লাভের পথ সুগম করে।
এখন সকলের অপেক্ষা শুক্রবারের জন্য, যখন তিন দেবদেবীর রথ আবার গড়াবে শ্রীগুণ্ডিচা মন্দিরের উদ্দেশে, আর পুরীর আকাশ-বাতাস আবারও মুখরিত হবে একটাই ধ্বনিতে— “জয় জগন্নাথ।”

Millions of Devotees Gather as Puri Rath Yatra Begins; Three Chariots Halt Midway, Journey to Resume Friday
PURI, Odisha, July 16 — Millions of devotees converged on the holy city of Puri on Thursday as the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, one of the world’s largest religious festivals, commenced with centuries-old rituals and elaborate ceremonies.
Pilgrims from across India and abroad lined the Grand Road, chanting “Jai Jagannath” as the deities—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra—were ceremonially brought out of the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in the traditional Pahandi procession and placed on their towering wooden chariots.
The ritual Chhera Pahanra, during which the Gajapati Maharaja of Puri swept the chariots with a golden broom, was performed before the procession began. The centuries-old ceremony symbolizes humility, equality and service before the divine.
Later in the day, thousands of devotees pulled the three chariots—Nandighosha, Taladhwaja and Darpadalana—along the Grand Road toward the Gundicha Temple, regarded as the temporary abode of the deities during the annual festival.
The chariots, however, halted midway before reaching their destination as evening approached and the day’s scheduled rituals concluded. Temple authorities said the procession would resume on Friday morning, when the chariots are expected to complete their journey to the Gundicha Temple.
Authorities deployed an extensive security operation across Puri, with thousands of police personnel, central security forces, surveillance drones, artificial intelligence-enabled monitoring systems and emergency response teams overseeing the event. Medical camps, ambulances, drinking water facilities and special transportation services were also arranged to manage the massive influx of pilgrims.
Heavy crowds at certain points briefly created congestion along the procession route, prompting security personnel to regulate the movement of devotees. Officials said the overall situation remained under control as emergency services continued to monitor the event.
Held annually on the second day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu month of Ashadha, the Jagannath Rath Yatra is among India’s most significant religious and cultural festivals. The event attracts millions of devotees and visitors from around the world, many of whom believe that pulling the sacred chariots brings divine blessings and spiritual merit.
The festival will continue over the coming days, with devotees expected to gather in large numbers as the deities complete their stay at the Gundicha Temple before returning to the Jagannath Temple during the Bahuda Yatra.
