এসপিটি নিউজ, কলকাতা, ২৯ জুলাই: আন্তর্জাতিক বাঘ দিবস উপলক্ষে বুধবার কলকাতার আলিপুর চিড়িয়াখানায় (জুওলজিক্যাল গার্ডেন, আলিপুর) বাঘ সংরক্ষণ সম্পর্কে জনসচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি এবং ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের মধ্যে বন্যপ্রাণ সংরক্ষণের গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরতে এক বিশেষ অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়। চিড়িয়াখানা প্রাঙ্গণের এনআইসি (NIC) ভবনে অনুষ্ঠিত এই কর্মসূচিতে বন ও বন্যপ্রাণ সংরক্ষণের বিভিন্ন দিক নিয়ে বিশদ আলোচনা, সাংস্কৃতিক পরিবেশনা এবং অংশগ্রহণমূলক অধিবেশন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
অনুষ্ঠানের সূচনা করেন আলিপুর চিড়িয়াখানার পরিচালক, যিনি অতিথি ও অংশগ্রহণকারীদের স্বাগত জানান এবং বাঘ সংরক্ষণে সকলের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণের ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন।
এরপর অবসরপ্রাপ্ত ভারতীয় বন পরিষেবা (IFS) আধিকারিক শ্রী নীলাঞ্জন মল্লিক বাঘ সংরক্ষণ বিষয়ক মূল প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন। তিনি বাঘের প্রাকৃতিক আবাসস্থল রক্ষা, জীববৈচিত্র্য সংরক্ষণ এবং পরিবেশের ভারসাম্য বজায় রাখতে বাঘের অপরিহার্য ভূমিকার ওপর আলোকপাত করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে আলিপুর চিড়িয়াখানার সহকারী পরিচালক (এআরডি) ও ভেটেরিনারি অফিসার ড. প্রলয় মণ্ডল বন্দিদশায় বাঘের স্বাস্থ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা, চিকিৎসা, পুষ্টি এবং দৈনন্দিন পরিচর্যা নিয়ে একটি তথ্যসমৃদ্ধ বক্তৃতা দেন। তিনি জানান, আধুনিক বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতি অনুসরণ করে বন্দিদশায় থাকা বাঘদের সুস্বাস্থ্য ও কল্যাণ নিশ্চিত করতে নিয়মিত পর্যবেক্ষণ ও বিশেষ যত্ন নেওয়া হয়।
অনুষ্ঠানের অন্যতম আকর্ষণ ছিল একটি প্রাণবন্ত ইন্টারঅ্যাকটিভ সেশন, যেখানে উপস্থিত অংশগ্রহণকারীরা বাঘ সংরক্ষণ ও বন্যপ্রাণ ব্যবস্থাপনা নিয়ে বিশেষজ্ঞদের সঙ্গে সরাসরি মতবিনিময়ের সুযোগ পান।
এছাড়াও হাওড়া মডার্ন স্কুল, সন্তোষপুর, কলকাতা এবং সাইনি ইন্টারন্যাশনাল স্কুল, হাওড়ার শিক্ষার্থীরা বাঘ সংরক্ষণ ও পরিবেশ রক্ষার বার্তা নিয়ে সাংস্কৃতিক স্কিট পরিবেশন করে উপস্থিত দর্শকদের প্রশংসা কুড়িয়ে নেয়।
চিড়িয়াখানার অভিজ্ঞ কিপারদের পক্ষ থেকে আয়োজিত ‘কিপার্স টক’-এ বন্দিদশায় বাঘের দৈনন্দিন পরিচর্যা, খাদ্যাভ্যাস, আচরণগত পর্যবেক্ষণ এবং নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থাপনা সম্পর্কে বিস্তারিত তুলে ধরা হয়। এতে অংশগ্রহণকারীরা চিড়িয়াখানার অভ্যন্তরীণ সংরক্ষণ কার্যক্রম সম্পর্কে বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা লাভ করেন।
প্রায় ১৫০ জনের উপস্থিতিতে অনুষ্ঠিত এই কর্মসূচির সমাপ্তি হয় এক সংক্ষিপ্ত সমাপনী পর্বের মাধ্যমে। সেখানে বক্তারা বাঘ সংরক্ষণকে শুধু বন দফতর বা সংরক্ষণ সংস্থার দায়িত্ব নয়, বরং সমগ্র সমাজের সম্মিলিত দায়িত্ব হিসেবে তুলে ধরেন। ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের জন্য বাঘ ও তার আবাসস্থল রক্ষায় সকলকে সচেতন ও দায়িত্বশীল ভূমিকা পালনের আহ্বান জানিয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক বাঘ দিবসের এই অনুষ্ঠান শেষ হয়।

International Tiger Day Highlights Conservation Awareness at Kolkata’s Alipore Zoological Garden
KOLKATA, India, July 29 (SPT): The Zoological Garden, Alipore, marked International Tiger Day on Wednesday with an awareness programme highlighting tiger conservation, scientific management of captive big cats and the importance of collective efforts to protect one of the world’s most iconic endangered species.
The programme, held at the NIC Building inside the zoo premises, brought together wildlife experts, zoo officials, students and visitors to discuss conservation challenges and the role of public awareness in safeguarding tiger populations.
The event opened with a welcome address by the Director of the Zoological Garden, Alipore, who underscored the importance of sustained conservation initiatives and community participation in protecting wildlife.
Delivering the keynote address, Nilanjan Mallick, a retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, spoke on India’s tiger conservation journey, emphasising habitat protection, ecological balance and long-term conservation strategies needed to secure the future of the species.
Dr. Pralay Mondal, Assistant Director (ARD) and Veterinary Officer at the Zoological Garden, Alipore, presented an overview of tiger healthcare and captive management practices. His presentation focused on veterinary care, nutrition, behavioural monitoring and scientific management protocols adopted to ensure the welfare of tigers under human care.
The programme also featured an interactive session that allowed participants to engage directly with experts on issues related to tiger conservation, biodiversity and wildlife management.
Students from Howrah Modern School, Santoshpur, Kolkata, and Saini International School, Howrah, staged cultural skits promoting wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship, reinforcing the message of protecting endangered species through education and public participation.
A dedicated keeper’s talk offered visitors an insight into the daily management of captive tigers, covering feeding routines, enrichment activities, behavioural observations and safety protocols followed by zoo staff.
Approximately 150 participants attended the event, reflecting growing public interest in wildlife conservation and environmental awareness.
The programme concluded with a valedictory session that reiterated the need for sustained conservation efforts and shared responsibility among governments, conservation institutions and the public to ensure the long-term survival of tigers in the wild.
Observed annually on July 29, International Tiger Day aims to raise global awareness about tiger conservation and promote coordinated action to protect the species and its natural habitats. India is home to the world’s largest wild tiger population and continues to play a leading role in global tiger conservation efforts.
