‘Bangkok International Food Festival 2023’ Raises Thailand’s World-Class Gastronomy Tourism Status

SPT News Bureau, Bangkok, May 23 – Various programs are being held around the world to promote travel and tourism. Many countries and self-governing bodies have taken various initiatives to make tourism attractive to people. Thailand Tourism Authority has come forward in this regard. They are organizing the ‘Bangkok International Food Festival 2023’. The aim is to provide experiential tourism and leverage ‘food’ – one of the 5F soft-power foundations to develop. A world-class gastronomy underscores Thailand’s status as a tourist destination.

The ‘Bangkok International Food Festival 2023’ will be held on May 26-30, from 3pm to 10pm, at the CentralWorld Shopping Plaza and Complex in Bangkok.

Gastronomy tourism experience

Apichai Chachalramkit, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, said, “Bangkok International Food Festival 2023 is envisioned as a prominent culinary event that showcases the diversity of gastronomy tourism experiences and food culture, which is one of Thailand’s 5F-Soft. power base. The host of the festival is to reflect Thailand’s ability to host large-scale international food events and showcase Thailand’s culinary experience as well as travel and tourism competition on the world stage.

Assisting in disbursement of income from travel expenses

Fundamentally, the Bangkok International Food Festival 2023 aims to inspire Thai and foreign tourists to travel more around Thailand, thus boosting local tourism through culinary tours and helping to distribute income from travel expenses to the community.

The five-day culinary event features four main events and five zones and live music performances.

Four core activities

Four core activities include creative cooking demonstrations by participating restaurants and eateries; creating chef’s table menus by renowned chefs from around the world; Adaptations of Thai street food menus by specialty chefs; and workshops on creating fine dining experiences using advanced culinary innovations. Some of the chefs invited from abroad include Chef Jacob Jan Boerma, Chef Davio Gil Rovira, Chef Alejandro Huertas, Chef Ruben Arnanz and Chef Saito Daikichi.

These are in five regions

The five zones include the International Food Zone featuring internationally branded restaurants, eateries and bakeries; The Michelin Guide Zone presents 15 Michelin-awarded restaurants and eateries; The featured region highlights famous restaurants from five regions across Thailand; The Street Food Zone showcases street food delicacies from all over Thailand; and Cafe Zone for coffee lovers.

Press conference held on May 22

TAT introduced the hosting of the Bangkok International Food Festival 2023 at a press conference on 22 May 2023 with a panel discussion presented by ‘Chef Noom’ Thanintorn Chanthrawan of Michelin-starred Chim at TAT’s Apichai, Siam Wisdom restaurant. Bangkok, and Thailand’s top eatery Mauin Tawephal (Mawinfinferor).
