এসপিটি নিউজ, কলকাতা, ২৯ সেপ্টেম্বর: পশ্চিমবঙ্গ রাজ্য পর্যটন দফতরের কার্যালয়ে আজ রাজ্যের পর্যটনের প্রসার ও শ্রীবৃদ্ধি নিয়ে বিজেপির কেন্দ্রীয় সমিতির সদস্য তথা বিশিষ্ট অভিনেতা মিঠুন চক্রবর্তীর সঙ্গে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পর্যটনকে কীভাবে আরও এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া যায়, বিশেষ করে উত্তরবঙ্গ ও পাহাড়ি এলাকার বিপুল পর্যটন সম্ভাবনাকে কীভাবে আরও কার্যকরভাবে কাজে লাগানো যায়, সেই বিষয়ে বৈঠকে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা হয়।
রাজ্যের পর্যটন দফতরের মন্ত্রী ড. শঙ্কর ঘোষ তাঁর সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমের পাতায় বৈঠকের কথা জানিয়ে বলেন, পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পর্যটনের আরও বিকাশের লক্ষ্যে বিভিন্ন বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়েছে। বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে উত্তরবঙ্গ ও পাহাড়ি অঞ্চলের পর্যটন সম্ভাবনাকে কাজে লাগানোর উপর। এই সব এলাকায় নতুন নতুন পর্যটনকেন্দ্র গড়ে তোলা, পর্যটকদের জন্য আরও আকর্ষণীয় পরিবেশ তৈরি করা এবং বাংলায় আরও বেশি পর্যটককে নিয়ে আসার বিভিন্ন সম্ভাবনা নিয়েও আলোচনা হয়েছে।
বৈঠকে উপস্থিত ছিলেন পশ্চিমবঙ্গের বন ও পরিবেশ দফতরের মন্ত্রী মনোজ কুমার ওরাওঁ, স্বরাষ্ট্র ও পার্বত্য বিষয়ক দফতর এবং সংখ্যালঘু বিষয়ক ও মাদ্রাসা শিক্ষা দফতরের প্রতিমন্ত্রী বিশাল লামা এবং পর্যটন দফতরের প্রতিমন্ত্রী পূর্ণিমা চক্রবর্তী।
পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পর্যটন মানচিত্রে উত্তরবঙ্গের পাহাড়, তরাই ও ডুয়ার্স অঞ্চলের গুরুত্ব অত্যন্ত বেশি। পাহাড়ি ভূপ্রকৃতি, বনভূমি, নদী, ঝরনা, জীববৈচিত্র্য, চা–বাগান, স্থানীয় সংস্কৃতি এবং বিভিন্ন জনগোষ্ঠীর ঐতিহ্য এই অঞ্চলের পর্যটনকে বৈচিত্র্যময় করে তুলেছে। দার্জিলিং, কালিম্পং, কার্শিয়াং কিংবা ডুয়ার্সের মতো পরিচিত পর্যটনকেন্দ্রের পাশাপাশি অপেক্ষাকৃত কম পরিচিত এলাকাগুলিকেও পর্যটন মানচিত্রে আরও গুরুত্ব দিয়ে তুলে ধরার সুযোগ রয়েছে।
বিশেষ করে নতুন পর্যটনকেন্দ্র গড়ে তোলার ক্ষেত্রে স্থানীয় মানুষের অংশগ্রহণকে গুরুত্ব দেওয়ার প্রয়োজন রয়েছে। পর্যটনের সঙ্গে স্থানীয় পরিবহণ, আবাসন, খাদ্য, হস্তশিল্প, কৃষিজাত পণ্য এবং লোকসংস্কৃতিকে যুক্ত করা গেলে প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলের অর্থনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ড আরও বৃদ্ধি পেতে পারে। এর ফলে পর্যটনের সুফল শুধু পর্যটনকেন্দ্রের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ না থেকে স্থানীয় মানুষের জীবন ও জীবিকার সঙ্গেও সরাসরি যুক্ত হওয়ার সুযোগ তৈরি হবে।
উত্তরবঙ্গ ও পাহাড়ি অঞ্চলে পর্যটনের সম্প্রসারণের ক্ষেত্রে পরিবেশের ভারসাম্য রক্ষা এবং প্রাকৃতিক সম্পদের সংরক্ষণও বিশেষ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। পর্যটকের সংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির সঙ্গে সঙ্গে পর্যটনকেন্দ্রগুলির পরিকাঠামো, যোগাযোগব্যবস্থা, নিরাপত্তা, পরিচ্ছন্নতা, আবাসন এবং অন্যান্য পরিষেবার মানোন্নয়ন প্রয়োজন। পরিবেশবান্ধব ও দায়িত্বশীল পর্যটনের মাধ্যমে এই অঞ্চলের প্রাকৃতিক বৈশিষ্ট্য অক্ষুণ্ণ রেখে পর্যটনের প্রসার ঘটানো সম্ভব বলে মনে করছেন সংশ্লিষ্ট মহল।
পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পর্যটনের সম্ভাবনা অবশ্য উত্তরবঙ্গ বা পাহাড়ের মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ নয়। দক্ষিণবঙ্গের সমুদ্র, নদী, অরণ্য, ঐতিহাসিক স্থাপত্য, ধর্মীয় স্থান, গ্রামীণ জীবন ও লোকসংস্কৃতিও পর্যটনের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সম্পদ। রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তের এই বৈচিত্র্যকে একটি সুসংহত পর্যটন পরিকল্পনার আওতায় এনে দেশীয় ও বিদেশি পর্যটকদের কাছে আরও কার্যকরভাবে তুলে ধরার সুযোগ রয়েছে।
পর্যটনের বিকাশের সঙ্গে কর্মসংস্থানের বিষয়টিও সরাসরি যুক্ত। পর্যটকের সংখ্যা বৃদ্ধি পেলে আবাসন, পরিবহণ, খাদ্য, হস্তশিল্প, স্থানীয় বিপণন, বিনোদন ও বিভিন্ন পরিষেবা ক্ষেত্রে কাজের সুযোগ বাড়তে পারে। বিশেষ করে যুবসমাজের জন্য পর্যটনকে কেন্দ্র করে নতুন কর্মসংস্থানের ক্ষেত্র তৈরি করার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। প্রত্যন্ত এলাকার তরুণ–তরুণীদের স্থানীয় পর্যটন অর্থনীতির সঙ্গে যুক্ত করা গেলে তাঁদের নিজস্ব এলাকায় থেকেই জীবিকার সুযোগ তৈরি হতে পারে।
মিঠুন চক্রবর্তীর মতো সর্বভারতীয় পরিচিতিসম্পন্ন ব্যক্তিত্বের সঙ্গে রাজ্যের পর্যটন নিয়ে এই আলোচনা পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পর্যটনকে আরও বৃহত্তর পরিসরে তুলে ধরার সম্ভাবনার দিকটিও সামনে এনেছে। পর্যটনের প্রসারকে শুধু পর্যটক বৃদ্ধির বিষয় হিসেবে না দেখে স্থানীয় অর্থনীতি, কর্মসংস্থান, সংস্কৃতি ও পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণের সঙ্গে যুক্ত করে দেখার প্রয়োজনীয়তাও এই আলোচনায় গুরুত্ব পেয়েছে।
রাজ্যের পর্যটনকে আরও শক্তিশালী করতে নতুন পর্যটনকেন্দ্র চিহ্নিত করা, বিদ্যমান পর্যটনকেন্দ্রগুলির পরিকাঠামোর উন্নতি, স্থানীয় মানুষের অংশগ্রহণ বৃদ্ধি, পরিবেশের সুরক্ষা এবং পর্যটকদের জন্য উন্নত পরিষেবা নিশ্চিত করার মতো বিষয়গুলি আগামী দিনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হয়ে উঠতে পারে। উত্তরবঙ্গ ও পাহাড়ি এলাকার বিপুল সম্ভাবনাকে পরিকল্পিতভাবে কাজে লাগানো গেলে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পর্যটন মানচিত্র আরও বিস্তৃত হওয়ার পাশাপাশি রাজ্যের অর্থনীতি ও কর্মসংস্থানের ক্ষেত্রেও তার ইতিবাচক প্রভাব পড়তে পারে।

West Bengal Tourism Expansion Discussed at Meeting with Mithun Chakraborty

SPT NEWS, Kolkata, September 29, 2026: A meeting focused on expanding tourism in West Bengal, with particular emphasis on North Bengal and the state’s hill regions, was held on Tuesday at the office of the West Bengal Tourism Department, with actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty participating in the discussions.
The meeting examined ways to further develop West Bengal as a tourism destination, identify new tourist attractions and increase the flow of visitors to the state. Particular attention was given to the tourism potential of North Bengal and the hills, including the possibility of developing new destinations and strengthening existing tourism infrastructure.
West Bengal Tourism Minister Dr Shankar Ghosh said in a post on his social media page that the meeting discussed measures to further advance tourism in the state. He highlighted the substantial tourism potential of North Bengal and the hill areas and the need to make better use of these opportunities to attract more visitors to Bengal.
The meeting was attended by West Bengal Minister for Forest and Environment Manoj Kumar Oraon, Minister of State for Home and Hill Affairs and Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Bishal Lama, and Minister of State for Tourism Purnima Chakraborty.
North Bengal occupies an important position in West Bengal’s tourism landscape, with its combination of mountains, forests, rivers, tea gardens, wildlife, cultural traditions and diverse communities. Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and the Dooars are among the region’s established tourism destinations, while several lesser-known locations also offer scope for further development.
The discussions also brought into focus the potential for tourism development to contribute to local economies. Greater tourism activity can generate demand for accommodation, transport, food services, handicrafts, local products and cultural experiences, thereby creating opportunities for people living in and around tourism destinations.
The development of new destinations in the hills and other ecologically sensitive areas, however, also involves the need to balance tourism growth with environmental protection. Infrastructure, connectivity, cleanliness, visitor safety and the quality of tourism services would be important components of any effort to expand tourism in these areas.
West Bengal’s tourism potential extends beyond North Bengal and the hills. The state’s coastline, rivers, forests, heritage sites, religious destinations, rural landscapes and cultural traditions offer opportunities for developing a diverse tourism economy across different regions.
The tourism sector can also have a wider employment impact. Increased visitor numbers can support jobs and livelihoods across hospitality, transport, food services, handicrafts, local commerce and other tourism-linked activities. The development of new destinations could therefore create additional opportunities for young people, particularly in areas where tourism is still at an early stage.
The meeting comes at a time when the state government is seeking to attract investment and strengthen tourism infrastructure. The Tourism Department has recently been engaging with investors and industry stakeholders on projects covering hospitality, heritage, tea tourism, eco-tourism and destinations across different parts of the state.
The discussions with Mithun Chakraborty further highlighted the broader objective of expanding West Bengal’s tourism footprint while linking destination development with employment, local economic activity and the preservation of the state’s natural and cultural assets.
