এসপিটি নিউজ, কলকাতা, ৭ মে: কলকাতার বিশিষ্ট পর্যটন ব্যবসায়ী এবং এআরইএস (ARES)-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা প্রয়াত মহাদেব পাঞ্জাবির স্মৃতির উদ্দেশ্যে রবিবার তাঁর কলকাতার বাসভবনে আয়োজিত হল ‘পঞ্চায়েতি ভেলো’ মধ্যাহ্নভোজ ও প্রসাদ বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠান। সমাজের বিভিন্ন স্তরের মানুষের উপস্থিতিতে অনুষ্ঠিত এই কর্মসূচিতে প্রায় ৪৫০ জন অংশগ্রহণ করেন। অনুষ্ঠানটি সুষ্ঠু ও শান্তিপূর্ণভাবে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন তাঁর পুত্র অনিল পাঞ্জাবি।
প্রয়াত মহাদেব পাঞ্জাবির স্মরণে এর আগে কলকাতার সিন্ধু ভবনের অমৃত ভেলা মন্দিরে এক আবেগঘন স্মরণসভার আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল। প্রবল ঝড়বৃষ্টি উপেক্ষা করে সেদিন প্রায় ৬০০ মানুষ সেখানে উপস্থিত হয়ে তাঁর প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করেন। আত্মীয়স্বজন, বন্ধু, শুভানুধ্যায়ী এবং সমাজের বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রের বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিদের উপস্থিতিতে স্মরণসভা পরিণত হয়েছিল এক আবেগঘন মিলনমেলায়।
যাঁরা মহাদেব পাঞ্জাবিকে কাছ থেকে চিনতেন, তাঁদের প্রত্যেকের স্মৃতিতে তিনি আজও এক উদার, সহৃদয় এবং মহৎপ্রাণ মানুষ হিসেবেই অম্লান। কর্মজীবনের প্রতিটি অধ্যায়ে সততা, নিষ্ঠা এবং মানবিকতার পরিচয় দিয়ে তিনি অসংখ্য মানুষের হৃদয়ে স্থায়ী স্থান করে নিয়েছিলেন।
গত ২৬ মে ২০২৬ সালে কলকাতার একটি বেসরকারি হাসপাতালে শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন মহাদেব পাঞ্জাবি। তাঁর প্রয়াণে শোকস্তব্ধ হয়ে পড়ে পরিবার, আত্মীয়স্বজন এবং পরিচিত মহল। স্ত্রী মায়া পাঞ্জাবি, একমাত্র পুত্র অনিল পাঞ্জাবি, পুত্রবধূ নীতা, নাতি-নাতনি শরনা ও শবাদ, জামাতা যোগেশ এবং প্রপৌত্র-প্রপৌত্রী মিভান ও জিভিকাসহ পরিবারের সকল সদস্য আজও তাঁর স্মৃতিকে শ্রদ্ধাভরে ধারণ করে চলেছেন। রবিবারের অনুষ্ঠানেও তাঁদের মহাদেব পাঞ্জাবির প্রতিকৃতির সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে প্রার্থনা করতে দেখা যায়।
একটি ছোট ঘর থেকে শুরু হয়েছিল তাঁর সংগ্রামী পথচলা। সীমিত সামর্থ্য, অদম্য অধ্যবসায় এবং কঠোর পরিশ্রমকে পুঁজি করে তিনি গড়ে তুলেছিলেন পর্যটন সংস্থা এআরইএস। সেই সময় তাঁর পুত্র অনিল ছিলেন অতি অল্পবয়সী। নানা প্রতিকূলতা ও চ্যালেঞ্জ অতিক্রম করে তিনি যে প্রতিষ্ঠান গড়ে তুলেছিলেন, তা আজ দেশের পর্যটন ব্যবসার জগতে একটি সুপরিচিত নাম। শুধু একটি সফল ব্যবসায়িক প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবেই নয়, বহু মানুষের কর্মসংস্থান ও জীবিকার অন্যতম ভরসা হিসেবেও প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে এআরইএস।
মহাদেব পাঞ্জাবির জীবন ছিল সংগ্রাম, অধ্যবসায়, সততা এবং মানবিকতার এক অনন্য উদাহরণ। তাঁর শারীরিক উপস্থিতি আজ আর নেই, কিন্তু তাঁর আদর্শ, কর্মনিষ্ঠা এবং মানুষের প্রতি অকৃত্রিম ভালোবাসা আজও বেঁচে রয়েছে পরিবারের সদস্যদের হৃদয়ে, প্রতিষ্ঠানের কর্মীদের স্মৃতিতে এবং তাঁর সান্নিধ্যে আসা অসংখ্য মানুষের শ্রদ্ধা ও ভালোবাসায়।
মানুষের জীবন একদিন শেষ হয়, কিন্তু কিছু মানুষ তাঁদের কর্ম, মূল্যবোধ ও মানবিকতার মাধ্যমে সময়ের গণ্ডি পেরিয়ে অমর হয়ে থাকেন। মহাদেব পাঞ্জাবি ছিলেন তেমনই এক ব্যক্তিত্ব। তাঁর স্মৃতির উদ্দেশ্যে আয়োজিত রবিবারের এই অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত মানুষের আন্তরিকতা ও শ্রদ্ধা যেন আবারও প্রমাণ করল—তিনি চলে গেলেও রয়ে গিয়েছেন অসংখ্য মানুষের হৃদয়ের গভীরে।

Hundreds Gather in Kolkata to Honor the Memory of ARES Founder Mahadev Punjabi
SPT News, Kolkata, June 2026: A heartfelt Panchayeti Velo luncheon and Prasad distribution ceremony was organized on Sunday at the Kolkata residence of the late Mahadev Punjabi, a distinguished tourism entrepreneur and founder of ARES. The event witnessed the participation of nearly 450 people from different walks of life, reflecting the deep respect and affection he earned throughout his lifetime.
According to his son, Anil Punjabi, the ceremony was conducted smoothly and peacefully, bringing together family members, friends, well-wishers, business associates, and members of the community to pay tribute to the departed visionary.
Earlier, an emotional memorial gathering had also been held at the Amrit Vela Mandir in Sindhu Bhavan, Kolkata, in remembrance of Mahadev Punjabi. Despite heavy rain and adverse weather conditions, nearly 600 people attended the event to offer their respects. Relatives, friends, admirers, and distinguished personalities from various fields came together to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who touched countless lives through his work, integrity, and compassion.
Those who knew Mahadev Punjabi closely continue to remember him as a kind-hearted, generous, and principled individual. Throughout his life, he earned admiration not only as a successful entrepreneur but also as a humane and inspiring personality who believed in helping others.
Mahadev Punjabi passed away on May 26, 2026, at a private hospital in Kolkata. His demise left his family, friends, and associates deeply saddened. He is survived by his wife Maya Punjabi, son Anil Punjabi, daughter-in-law Neeta, grandchildren Sharna and Shabad, son-in-law Yogesh, and great-grandchildren Mivan and Jivika. During Sunday’s ceremony, family members were seen offering prayers before his portrait, remembering the values and love he shared with them.
His journey was one of perseverance and determination. Starting from a modest room with limited resources, Mahadev Punjabi built ARES through sheer hard work, dedication, and an unwavering vision. At a time when his son Anil was still very young, he faced numerous challenges and obstacles while establishing the company. Today, ARES has grown into a respected name in the tourism industry and has become a source of livelihood and support for many families.
Mahadev Punjabi’s life remains a shining example of resilience, honesty, and humanity. While he is no longer physically present, his ideals, work ethic, and compassion continue to inspire his family, colleagues, employees, and the many people whose lives he influenced.
It is often said that while life is temporary, some individuals achieve immortality through their deeds and the love they leave behind. Mahadev Punjabi was one such individual. The overwhelming response to Sunday’s memorial ceremony stood as a testament to the enduring impact he had on countless lives and the deep respect he continues to command in the hearts of those who knew him.
