Madhya Pradesh Attracts Thousands of Crores in Tourism Investment Proposals
SPT NEWS, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, 10 October: Madhya Pradesh is seeking to strengthen its position as a major tourism destination in India, with investment proposals worth thousands of crores of rupees spanning luxury hospitality, wildlife tourism, heritage conservation, film tourism and tourism infrastructure. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to facilitating private investment through transparent policies, faster approvals and a streamlined single-window system.
The proposals were discussed during one-to-one meetings with tourism investors, hospitality groups and industry stakeholders at MP Travel Mart 2026. Several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed, while Letters of Award (LoAs) were issued for tourism projects across the state.
One of the largest individual proposals is an investment of ₹848.40 crore by A.R.M. Foods Pvt. Ltd. to develop a golf course, hotel villas, a wellness resort and luxury hotel projects at Ramgarh in Sehore district. The project is expected to generate around 920 direct jobs. The company was represented by its Chairman and Director, Atul Agrawal.
Dr Yadav said the government would support investors with land allocation, infrastructure development and the necessary approvals within defined timelines. The state aims to turn tourism investment into a driver of employment, entrepreneurship and economic growth, particularly for local communities and young people.
Major Investments Proposed in Luxury Hospitality
Atmosphere Group has proposed investing ₹500 crore to expand luxury hospitality facilities in Ujjain, Indore and key wildlife tourism circuits.
Renny Group outlined investment plans exceeding ₹290 crore. These include ₹130 crore to transform the approximately 350-year-old Lunera Sarai in Mandu into a Welcome Hotel by ITC, ₹125 crore for a waterfront resort opposite Kutni Dam in Khajuraho and ₹35 crore for a Storii by ITC property in Sidhi. An additional resort near Bansagar Dam in Maihar is also under consideration.
Sarv Group proposed investing ₹100 crore in a 40-acre ultra-luxury wildlife resort at Madhai, near Satpura Tiger Reserve, in partnership with Taj Safaris. The group also discussed total investments of ₹300 crore across Madhya Pradesh.
MRVH Resorts plans to complete its ₹200-crore Ramada Resort by Wyndham project in Omkareshwar by the end of 2026, ahead of Simhastha 2028. The company has proposed a further investment of ₹150 crore across Ratapani, Bandhavgarh, Pachmarhi and Madhai.
Other proposals include an ₹80-crore hotel project by Varay Hotels at Brajrajkhedi in Ujjain and a resort investment exceeding ₹50 crore by Evolve Back Group in Mandu. Several hospitality companies have also expressed interest in developing luxury properties and destination-based accommodation across the state.
Wildlife Tourism and Sustainable Development
Wildlife tourism emerged as another major investment focus. Ramco Group’s JKR Hospitality proposed investments of ₹120–140 crore in sustainable wildlife resorts across Kanha, Kuno, Pench, Rani Durgavati, Sanjay Dubri, Ratapani, Bandhavgarh and Panna.
The proposals reflect growing interest in combining premium accommodation with nature-based tourism. Sustainable planning and environmental safeguards will be important to ensure that tourism development complements wildlife conservation.
Heritage Conservation, Training and Film Tourism
The state also signed MoUs covering heritage management, professional training and film-related tourism.
An agreement with the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, will support the preparation of an integrated management plan for the historic Orchha complex. Dronah will prepare an environmental, landscape and conservation plan for the area.
ACAD, Indore, signed an MoU relating to film production education, tourism and content creation. The Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management in Gwalior will train and certify tourist vehicle drivers under a Recognition of Prior Learning programme. The first phase will cover 100 drivers in Bhopal.
A separate tripartite agreement involving the BSF Academy, Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation and the district administration will support tourism facilities, digital infrastructure and the upgrading of the BSF Museum at Tekanpur in Gwalior district.
Film tourism was also discussed during the investor meetings. TVF founder Arunabh Kumar highlighted the potential to position Madhya Pradesh as a major filming destination, citing popular productions such as Panchayat and Gullak. Actor Annu Kapoor spoke about promoting cultural heritage through cinema, while chef Ranveer Brar offered suggestions for developing destination-based culinary tourism.
Letters of Award for Tourism Projects Across the State
The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board issued Letters of Award for a range of proposed developments, including resorts, hotels, eco-tourism facilities and heritage accommodation.
The locations include Orchha in Niwari district, Betul, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Gandhi Sagar, Raisen, Sagar, Sehore and Ujjain. A heritage hotel project at Lakshmipur Palace in Panna also received an award letter.
Additional approvals covered wayside facilities along the Khajuraho–Panna, Jabalpur–Bhopal and Ujjain–Makshi routes. These facilities are intended to improve convenience for tourists and other road users.
Focus on MICE, Adventure Tourism and Technology
Madhya Pradesh is also looking to attract national and international meetings, incentive programmes, conferences and exhibitions, collectively known as MICE tourism. Representatives of the events industry discussed opportunities to host large-scale gatherings in the state.
Industry stakeholders also highlighted the scope for environmentally responsible adventure tourism, tourism-sector training and the promotion of lesser-known destinations.
Technology is expected to play a growing role in visitor services. A proposal to introduce artificial intelligence-based assistants at tourism destinations was discussed as a way to improve access to information and enhance the visitor experience.
The scale and diversity of the proposals underline Madhya Pradesh’s ambition to expand its tourism economy through private capital, improved infrastructure and destination development. However, the investment figures represent proposals and planned projects, not necessarily completed investments. Their eventual economic impact will depend on implementation, timely approvals, infrastructure readiness and the ability to deliver sustainable, high-quality tourism experiences.
